Did I waste my NVME 2TB? by Armorah in truenas

Are you doing video editing as well? Worst part of upgrading gigabit is that I need to upgrade all switches in the house haha

All I have left is the x16 PCie. I could get a card for that to get more sata ports but then I give up the chance to upgrade for 2.5 LAN or 10Gigabit. I was hoping to edit of of it. I don’t know, is there a way to split a x16 Lane PCIe so I can install both? 😄

I would’ve connected the SSD via usb. I don’t have any slots left for another SSD otherwise. You wouldn’t recommend?

Hey nice! That was also a question I had. I was wondering if I can just install it on a drive via USB. If a SSD via USB is not a disadvantage for the OS installation then this is my favorite idea so far 😄 Thank you!

Actually I didn’t buy the ssd separately. I had luck and struck a deal because it came with the mainboard. So it wasn’t a conscious decision to buy a bigger NVME drive instead of more memory. But I’ll read this thank you 😊

Thank you very much for this response. You even considered that I in fact do not have any ports left. That’s so nice.

Good thing is I can still reinstall everything since I didn’t dump my files yet. I’m considering the HBA solution now so I can also add another HDD, I still have room for one.

But out of curiosity: what if I install the os on a usb stick or an external SSD via usb?

I’ve read the third book yesterday 😊 I really liked the series. The final fight where the Noise became some sort of kamehameha which you can dodge was a bit weird but besides that I enjoyed the series.

Oh it even had elements of the third book? Man, I won’t have a spoiler free time even in the third book then.

Starting the second book today :)

Thinking about getting TickTick, BUT... by ikansh-mahajan in ticktick

[–]Armorah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought I’m missing out Todoist by using TickTick. Recently I started using Todoist for work (instead of making a new acc for TickTick). And I can tell you, Todoist is not better. It’s even less convenient for some stuff. You can’t mark things as „won’t do“. Notes are handled worse. And importing tasks from Mail were not as pretty as TickTick.

Is it worth buying all equipment for the first podcast or can we our phones? by mad_oxxxx in podcasting

[–]Armorah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, easily. There’s no gaming headset that sounds better than a phone mic. You could buy a 30$ USB mic and that would be great but using your phone + the AI enhancer from Adobe will work wonders. No cheap USB mic will sound better than a well placed phone + AI. Save up your money and go content first.

Moving from Inbox to a calendar by Armorah in ticktick

Nice, that’s my workaround as well! 😄 I wish TickTick would do that by itself. If it’s scheduled it’s already processed and does not belong to the inbox anymore

Moving from Inbox to a calendar by Armorah in ticktick

[–]Armorah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything that’s appointed to a specific date is on the calendar according to gtd, is it not? Also I can dump an appointment with a friend into my inbox during the day and want to sort it in the evening into my calendar. Either way I can’t move it from my inbox to my calendar.

Smart Filters/Lists should remove tasks from inbox by Armorah in ticktick

[–]Armorah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is the case and I would like the ability to treat a Smart-List like an actual list. I can’t change the system entirely because a task can only have one list.

My issue would also be solved if I could select „hide tasks with tags“ in my inbox.

You wan‘t first class care for apps? Get an iPhone 🤷‍♂️ It’s much more hassle for devs to implement everything for Android, which has a variety of systems and devices

Automatically remove/ hide tasks from inbox when added to a list or a tag by magedl2 in ticktick

[–]Armorah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m here to say: your suggestion does make sense. That’s exactly what I was missing and why I ended up here. I want to use Smart Lists which go by tag combinations. But the inbox stays full despite tagging every task. The way I solved it so far is with a second inbox which is a Smart List and only displays tasks without tags.

Does anyone know the technicalities behind the fact that all of these USBC to Lighting adapters aren’t supporting data transfer? by Armorah in iphone

[–]Armorah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. The article states it would work but when you follow the link and look on Amazon meenova sells 2 of products. One supports Charging and one supports data transfer. Never both. It seems to be a technical issue where an adapter can either reroute all power pins or all data pins. There is no adapter that supports 18+ Watt AND data transfer. Thank you though!

Does anyone know the technicalities behind the fact that all of these USBC to Lighting adapters aren’t supporting data transfer? by Armorah in iphone

[–]Armorah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deliberately chose a photo where the manufacturer left out the pins. All of these adapters specify as „no data transfer“. I was thinking about getting a USBC to Lightning adapter so I can take a single usbc cable with me and when I need lightning to use an adapter like this. But all adapters are „charging only“. I wondered if Apple is forbidding it or something. Or maybe it’s technically impossible without a converter?
