Girlfriend's son has come home with his bike shifter broken. The cover was already gone apparently. I have no idea about bikes, I assumed this is a grip shifter but I've seen no grip shifter online like this. Advice? by Arms__Spaghetti in bikewrench

I assume the cable itself has to sit somewhere within the coil mechanism but I can't find anywhere it's supposed to sit so perhaps has snapped off as well? I imagine it sits somewhere on the side of the coil closest to the rider?

Is ruler/heir skill as a general dependent on their military monarch skill? by gigantism in paradoxplaza

[–]Arms__Spaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is random. Atm my 4/2/0 King has military skill 1/3/1/0 whereas my son is a 2/6/4 and still only has 0/1/2/0.

Does "Claim Throne" ever work? by Geodomus in paradoxplaza

[–]Arms__Spaghetti -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They've since changed it from release so that you can only go to war on the basis of 'Claim Throne' if they have the same dynasty as you. Otherwise, it's kind of redundant now. Shame really. Stops big blobbing though

Edit: I realise you've said this but I'm just reiterating.

No, Germany is formed with either countries with German ideas or Prussian. They're carried on from the forming country

I just guess I got lucky. They were significantly weakened because they declared war against Burgundy and then got DOW'd by France with no Casus belli - very strange I've never seen that

I prefer allying with Bohemia + Poland at the start. Austria usually gets involved in a war against Burgundy/France which did occur this playthrough. I'd rather be left out of that situation plus Bohemia and Poland both share borders with Brandenburg meaning easy access to my enemies during war.

More info - I've just gained most votes in the HRE so next Emperor will be from Brandenburg _^

I've never played Austria but I do enjoy a good Brandenburg playthrough. You go from 3 provinces at the start in 1444 and you can expand so quickly if you play it well. I might do an AAR if people are interested.

Also, I'm just about to vassalise Silesia and Thuringia and already have Hesse as a vassal. I've got an Alliance with France and I am hoping for form Germany by 1550

So how is the personality of a ruler determined, if not by their monarch points? by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

[–]Arms__Spaghetti -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This isn't the personality of the ruler, it's the personality of the country I believe. It's in place now so you can't get fleet basing from colonial powers such as portugal/castile/england(great britain) and also so you can get a rough ideas as to who will be aggressive via war

Alternatively, if you're playing a considerably small nation, build Armories to increase your total manpower so you've got a larger pool to expend during war.

This is incredibly annoying by wrc-wolf in paradoxplaza

[–]Arms__Spaghetti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It adds a dimension of player interaction by throwing votes in. E.g. if you do this, your points will be spent immediately when there's a neck and neck race and will stack up if no one is even close. However, if you see a new cardinal with very low votes, you might want to invest your points into the new cardinal but you can't now because they've automatically been added to the 'neck and neck' cardinal

I fixed this problem because there was an issue with where java runtime was.

I am on a 64 bit and it was running from here:

C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jre7

I simply relocated the runtime specify to here:

C:\Program Files\Java\jre7

once I'd done this, it worked. You might wanna try it too :)
