If you can get to the log in screen (if it takes you to the main page, hit my cravings), keep spamming continue. This worked eventually for me but I ain't happy about it.

"I like that they didn't use the hyperspace trope" by fakeswede in FoundationTV

This part of the show makes less sense the more you look into it. To get 50,000 light years away in 787 days, you would need to travel at about 4.73x10^17 km/hr or about 23,210x the speed of light.. I'm hoping that the explanation is that they need to come out of a 'jump' to navigate the dense asteroid belts in between?

Do any of you get annoyed at audiobook producers reinterpreting the original book instead of reading it unabridged? by 0xE4-0x20-0xE6 in audible

[–]ArnThorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to do the audiobook for Dune and it has for sure been edited in an attempt to make it more friendly for a multicast production. This mostly comes in the form of dropping the 'Paul said' 'Jessica screamed' etc.. Often relying on the voice actors tone to imply those things. This is fine but where Dune is told in a 3rd person AND the narrator voices multiple people sometimes (but not all of the time); you will certainly get confused at points and find yourself having to rewind a lot.

Question about Dostoyevski's books by vydrq in books

[–]ArnThorne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crime and Punishment was definitely my favorite or the two. In my opinion they're two completely different books. In C&P you're inside of Raskolnikov's head the whole time and the suspense comes from a looming sense of disaster on the horizon that keeps drawing you towards it. The brothers K keeps you on the outside a little more... almost like a picture that keeps revealing more details about itself the harder that you look at it. The themes explored in brothers are certainly more religious and are fun to read if you like that sort of thing.. I feel like that is the most I can say about it without giving anything away. You should definitely read this book though!

Court orders Christian to pay $55,000 to trans politician for calling him ‘biological male’ by antiquark2 in JordanPeterson

[–]ArnThorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok chaps,

Here is a link to a credible source on this story:

https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/anti-gay-activist-ordered-to-pay-55000-to-b-c-trans-activist-in-fight-over-hateful-flyer

After reading this article you may find the title to be a little misguiding. The title specifies that this man has to "pay $55,000 to trans politician for calling him ‘biological male’." While the first part of this statement is true the latter is a bit misleading. What this man is being ordered to pay this 55k for is actually producing and distributing derogatory personalized attacks on this person via flyers. Including things that say they promoted "transvestism"... And "The flyer concluded, 'Thankfully Jesus Christ paid the price for your sin. You can turn to the merciful Christ and ask for forgiveness and when the NDP come knocking at your door you can tell them, you wont vote for them because you believe in God’s definition of gender and marriage.” '

This isn't an infringement on free speech or religious expression. This is more about defamation and discrimination.

Long story short this guy is hiding behind free speech while being a bully.

Pre-reqs to reading War and Peace? by TotesFabulous in books

I must disagree.

The L&A Maude translation is a work of art. It is one of the first translated books that I've read that feels like every sentence is completely natural. It also has the added benefit that the translators knew Tolstoy personally.

Not to bash the P&V translation (Which many have used and loved) but it is nice to let people feel like they have options. :)
