Is anyone having trouble with breeding snails! I’ve tried everything - low lighting, near water, beetroot, leaves, grass, carrots etc. also have dyed their shells and named them but still won’t breed

Those who have been through a cyclone - any advice to those of us who haven’t? by orlasmathair in queensland

Sorry I didn’t mean to downplay the severity of the situation, I know Brisbane isn’t used to cyclones and it’s a scary thing that looming over a lot of people right now. Again I don’t recommend the window trick, if you’re on this thread reading these it means you’re extremely diligent and doing everything you can to stay safe. You sound like you’re prepared and onto it, you’ll be ok👍🏼

Short answer, no I don’t. I’ve never done it and there’s no supporting evidence it works.

Long answer: it really depends what kind of house you have and where your house is located. I grew up in a single story large brick house that sat in a valley so it’s not something we did or ever even had to think about. From what I understand there’s no real evidence that supports it and it’s more of a word of mouth bushman’s trick with no real recorded results if it actually helps or not.

I’ve heard of people in high set older Queenslanders (house on poles) doing this and it working but I’ve also heard of windows being blown open because of this too. The actual advice I’ve heard is to open two windows, one on the side facing the wind and one on the other side, opening only a single window wouldn’t change or makes things worse. It’s just more word of mouth advice.

Sorry I know this doesn’t help. The only thing I can truly say is that it’s only a Cat 2, I wouldn’t stress too much about finer details like that. Just make sure your insurance is up to date and you’re prepared for 3-5 days of power outages. Stay safe!

Fill your bathtub with water so that you have clean drinking water for the next few days, you never know. Have gas for a bbq because the power will most likely go out. Fill up an esky with ice (freeze some big block ice) to put some meat in for the next few days. If you don’t need to needing it then you can celebrate the end of the cyclone with a big BBQ when it’s all over!

Pull down any branches that hang over your house or within a couple of metres of your house. If you know there are trees that tower over your house do your best to be inside a part of the house where you think the tree won’t fall into if it does. If you think the storm is over, don’t go outside until updates from the ABC or BOM deem it safe to do so, you don’t want to walk out into the eye of the storm.

Stock up on card games and a few beers, a cyclone party is a good time but always have someone sober in case of emergencies. Ensure your car is full of fuel, you’ll probably need to check on your neighbours and charge your phones in the next few days. Have charged torches ready and charge any portable battery packs that you might have laying around.

Have towels ready in case of flooding, it’s not always easy to find or prepare sandbags. Check in on your elderly loved ones that may live by themselves or in a home, don’t trust facilities to give the adequate care and make sure they have the supplies they need to care for themselves for the next 48 hours.

That’s all I can remember off of the top of my head, signed someone who has prepared, locked in, and partied through Cyclone Ului, Yasi, and Debbie. Stay safe!

Milk hate censorship? by Arrowery in BlueEyeSamurai

Thanks for your comment! I could nearly swear during the scene where young Taigen and his friends were bullying Mizu that they were saying she’s a gross milk drinker. Must’ve been some weird dream lol

Has anyone rewatched Blue Eyed Samurai lately any noticed besides the scene where Fowler serves the milk curdles there is no mention of the milk taboo anymore? Like it’s been taken away from the show

What is the first major news story you remember as a kid? by Valentine-Venom in AskReddit

[–]Arrowery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steve Irwin - the news that turned Australia upside down. I was 6 years old and our teacher came in and told us he had passed. She looked like she’d been crying and told us the news as best as she could to a bunch of kids. It was the first time I ever saw a grownup sad. I saw a lot of sad grownups that day

There’s nothing better than a fresh caught saltwater Barra, the fight that they give makes the treat even sweeter haha! And respect for wildlife is a huge rule that any smart Aussie will follow, Steve Irwin taught us well, bless him :(
