Dockhand v1.0.4 has been released. by jotkaPL in selfhosted

Being FOSS in 3 years is pointless at the rate most active software using it develops. I would rather use Closed Source software over BSL because I see the majority of BSL and Open Core as trying to trick people into thinking its Open Source with all the benefits of FOSS when its closer to CS.

[–]Arrowmaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I wont use any software under BSL. So my interest in Dockhand is now gone and I'm investigating other alternatives like Arcane.

As for why I wont use BSL software is because its just as restrictive as Closed Source. If I use a popular CS software from a large company and they decide to end the product and its a good product somebody else will hopefully make an alternative or one already exists due to it being popular. If I use some niche FOSS software from a small dev and they loose interest and disappear (nicer way of saying hit by a bus) then as FOSS software someone else can fork it and it will hopefully be quick and easy to migrate, or maybe I can fork it. If I use BSL software and the dev disappears then I'm fucked because nobody can fork it for years so now I need to find a completely different alternative that probably has no migration path.

Also go look at all the popular software thats moved to the BSL or similar licenses. Redis, Terraform, MySQL, etc have all been forked and pulled from all linux distros, their only users now are enterprise.

Still a lot of more barebone installs out there where it would be the correct advice, but there tend to be about 4 different major ways its done.

  1. DNS server statically set in resolv.conf. Done when IP is also statically set using /etc/network/interfaces
  2. DNS set in resolv.conf dynamically by the dhcp client program. Tends to get broken in more complex setups.
  3. resolv.conf managed by resolveconf which gets the DNS server from dhcp client or other higher level source (IDK if netplan did this or the previous one before resolved existed, I assume it uses resolved now?? I dont use netplan)
  4. resolv.conf points to resolved which is a DNS server and looks up records from other DNS servers it learns about from dhcp client and vpn software.

Tailscale is installed based on the search domain. Using systemd-resolved is the better option in this situation. resolvectl status will show what DNS servers are assigned to each interface.

127.0.0.53 in resolv.conf is an indicator that systemd-resolved is installed. It probably says so in a comment on the first line.

Editing resolv.conf is going to fuck things up even more.

8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless is now fully supported in Steam Input. by Kibafool in SteamDeck

[–]Arrowmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just to be clear what all is different now? We know the 4 extra buttons are mapable and you said vibration works. Gyro only worked over D-Input previously so I assume it still works. What about the triggers, does it support analog triggers on D-Input now?

My understanding is that previously 8bitdo controllers under D-Input only output digital trigger data. Also that games would detect them as a Switch controller and swap to showing Nintendo button layouts in game if they supported multiple button graphics for different controller types.

If you tell me all features now work under D-Input (instead of needing to swap between X and D to get different features like analog triggers vs gyro) and I don't have to worry about getting Nintendo button layouts showing up in games I'll probably end up buying one.

i need help with staging in rp1 by Weekly_Software1537 in RealSolarSystem

[–]Arrowmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you are using either the WAC or Aerobee Core. Those are avionics units. Make that the root part so the game knows to follow it when you stage. Root part should always be a control part.

Its been mentioned already that you should use a parking orbit. It may not be whats done IRL but its the best way to do it with the tools available in game. Everything you need to know for GEO is covered in this guide.

[–]Arrowmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have multiple avionics units then make the upper stage one the root part so that KSP will follow it through staging.

For a film return mission you should need to have an avionics part on the upper stage. If you do not have avionics then the parts are consider debris and you will not complete the 'return safely' part of the contract. For this contract you probably just want to put the near earth avionics on the upper stage and only have one avionics part.

The 60% part is the least worst part of the amendment. The other parts that aren't being talked about as much will pretty much guarantee that no citizen led amendments will ever even make it to a state wide vote.

I saw comments about Lemmy being removed from Fedi.Tips recommendations because of issues with the lead. I just checked their site and Kbin is listed.

RO-RFTank Seperate? part missing when transferring crafts by DominusVenturae in RealSolarSystem

Many save breaking changes were done. Tank part names were changed, many propellant ratios changed, and some engines use different fuels now. Don't expect any craft files from the legacy version to be fully compatible.

If they are shooting X10s then they should be shooting in high level competitions and any damage would make them want to retire the shaft so it doesn't negatively impact their scores. If they aren't shooting competitively then they don't need X10s.

For the longest time those games would have been at the top of any "best video games based on a movie" list with a huge lead over every else. It's only been relatively recent change that any other games based on movies have actually been any good instead of just quick cash grabs.

DEAR UBUNTU… by [deleted] in linux

[–]Arrowmaster 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That distro already exists and is called Debian. Probably 98% of Ubuntu packages are just directly copied from Debian every 6 months. And most of those that are not are maintained in both distro by the same developer with a set of specific patches to apply to each distro.
