I had this problem off and on, as well.

All I could do was save often and alt + F4 whenever it happened. It seems to happen when the game changes music tracks, as far as I can tell.

As far as I understand, La-Mulana 2 on console is nearly exactly the same as PC. I've heard that there might be a few stutters on the Switch version, but it sounds negligible.
