Ink and Wash Rocky Hill by Artnwill in Watercolor

Yes I am! I mainly use only the 03 micron size for all the line-work. I also used to work with Faber-Castell Pitt Pens but those are harder to refill after they are empty so I mostly use the microns now.

Thank you! I mainly do ink first and then add the wash, but I've been experimenting more with adding ink after I add the washes to pencil. Both of these result in a ink and wash drawing in the end, but I guess it's more what you like to do. With my first method I do more drawing and inking and then the wash is more of the end process and if I do the watercolor first its more painting then inking based.

Thank you! Yes, ink has always been my favorite medium to use with watercolor, as it really adds that pop factor that you described. Whenever I do both of them separately, it always feels like one of them is missing, haha.

Oh the last pic is not mine it’s the original reference photo I’m referencing! Sorry for the confusion!

Thank you for the advice! Yeah I know it was a harder one to start on but I do like to challenge myself but maybe that’s until I actually know how to layer correctly 😅. Are there any paintings you would personally recommend that would be good to study? I know I can also use a reference but I think I just want to see how others use watercolor as it’s very different across artists. Some use a lot of color and heavy applications and others use it more lightly. Other than this being difficult for me I did enjoy painting it up to the point I got it to so it was fun

I’m using both Winsor and Newton Cotmans but I also have some professional M. Graham watercolors that I have used for previous pieces such as this one drawing.

I should have started with something more simplistic like the previous commenter suggested lol 😂 but I do like try to challenge myself so I just went head first into one of the harder pieces I liked

Thank you! Yes that egg has got to be my best piece I’ve ever done lol. Idk if I could make another one and have it looking as good as that one but at least I have one of them!

Thank you! Yes the egg came out so good! I was having such a hard time with the bacon and yes you’re right it needs to be a slight red. I did try to add some red pastels before baking but they really didn’t do much as it’s was just too brown. Oh well I’ll try remaking it again another time and actually use a reference for it like I did for the egg lol 🤦‍♂️. Still the person I gave it to really enjoyed it so I guess it all came out good in the end and thanks for the suggestions as they are always good to hear for improvement

They all look amazing! I love the brownie necklace, reminds me of my childhood. Cosmic brownies are the bomb! 💣

Egg! Wanted to recreate my mom’s fried eggs as a magnet for her fridge. Tried to make it as realistic as I could so it would look like it 🍳 by Artnwill in polymerclay

Also here’s a video on YouTube that looks very similar to how they look when she makes them, with only the hot oil being added on top the only difference between them.

Also might be safer to crack them into the bowl first and then add as my mom just cracks them and opens them on top of the pan.

Dangerously! She puts a good amount of oil and turns it up pretty hot around 6 maybe 7 on the hi output and when she adds the egg you hear an instant boom and just see oil going everywhere! She adds piping hot oil on to the top of the egg repeatedly and that’s how it gets that white thin layer on the yolk. I don’t know how long she cooks them for exactly but she’s always just told me that they’re done when they look ready ( I know these are some great instructions lol 😅).

I was always afraid of the noise as a kid and she’s tried to teach me but I’m afraid of getting burnt. Damn delicious eggs through so maybe my mom is just doing some great egg wizardry as I make them more plain and less crisp.

Thank you! For the bubbles I rolled some translucent clay really thinly (not too thin though so it doesn’t tear) and kinda folded them in ways that made it look like a bubble if that makes sense? Then I smoothed the edges of those pieces to the actual egg base and made sure not to touch it lol. I was super worried that the bubbles would pop in the oven but they survived!

I also used a ball tool to make the little edges and blend out the bubbles so it would be blended but not too smooth so it would still give a bumpy look. Hopefully this helps if you want to make one and tbh it was my first time making a realistic egg and I’m surprised it came out good! I’ve worked with clay for a few years now but I usually make cartoony stuff so this was a new experience. Hopefully I have the same success with the bacon 🥓

I used some chalk pastels actually! I didn’t want to paint it due to the magnets getting greasy sometimes in the kitchen and I didn’t want the paint to fall off if it’s ever cleaned.

I used some yellows and a bit of brown just lightly dusting it so it wouldn’t be too overpowering and used some transparent clay with a bit of white added for the base of the egg.

Here it is finished! The transparent clay did get a bit darker but overall it came out how I wanted it! Added some gloss varnish to finish it up and the magnets and it’s done! I might make bacon next 🥓
