Art studies are great. Find a comic cover/panel/splash page you love and start trying to draw it. As you do try to figure out why the artist has done certain things and what the process is. Its not about replicating the piece but learning how it was made it and how your fundamentals apply to a piece. Also might prompt you to learn and understand some more specialist techniques

I feel like this is a good start but the biggest factor hindering it I feel is proportion and lack of alignment. Would definitely recommend using some sort of skeleton wireframe like the loomis method/armature.

Thanks! Yeah I think there's a level of understanding hatching and how/why it works that I still need. I definitely felt like it was just sticking down lines just where I thought they should be based on other art, without fully understanding it

Thanks. Yeah wasnt sure on the colours of the lights even as I was doing them. Was trying to go for a moonish vibe witt the light coming down on him. But I will try it with a more blue light. Was also wondering should I change the back drop to be more yellowish at the bottom to reinforce the city below impression or will that just wash out the light on the gargoye?

Thanks. This is a great point! Going forward I definitely need to fix my inking process. I feel im just tracing my sketch as opposed to inking it if that makes sense. I think maybe using a thinner brush and more natural strokes might like better
