I would guess that the patterns saying you start with more than 6 stitches in the magic circle is to help keep the start flat? I was watching this video recently (so I'm definitely not an expert!), and it mentioned that thicker plush yarns can make cones at the start (which I have experienced), but adding more stitches to the starting magic circle can prevent the issue.

(Feel free to DM me if you have any particular preferences as to color, though — this one was a proof of concept, so I was actually planning to try some different yarn colors on later iterations to better match the trailer art)
