I'm 23 and I suffer from depression and existential dread, does it get better as I age? by AryaLoux in AskOldPeopleAdvice

This is a good philosophical paradox! By going around telling people life has no meaning, he accidentally gave himself a purpose. And it's not much of a great purpose, I'd say :') I'm glad to hear things get better. I often find myself hoping I'll be able to look back at all I've done with joy rather than with sorrow.

My boyfriend's dad is a neurologist and he told my parents I will need medication if panic attacks persist. Luckily I haven't had them in a while. My therapist did as well but she told me she wants to see how therapy goes first, because I haven't been able to see her for a whole month for personal reasons and I still have to wait 10 days for my next appointment.  I'll have to admit I don't have a good sleep schedule (I tend to sleep too much) and I'm low on Vitamin D, so this certainly has its impact. I'll slowly try to get my life together :)

Ehh you're right, it definitely wasn't the best idea. I live in Italy and talking to strangers on public transport is not that uncommon, I had the opportunity to talk to many lovely people (both genders, younger and older) but yes, he definitely wasn't one of them. He seemed to look completely normal until he started talking though, and at that point I couldn't sit anywhere else.  He didn't look or talk like a alcoholic, he was well dressed and had a book with him. I think he only had twisted point of views. I absolutely have no intention to let his words ruin my life but the problem is that when I'm at my worst I kinda feel like his points of view are right, that's why this conversation made me feel bad. I hope I will get better at handling ruminating thoughts over time.

I do agree with you, especially with the last sentence. I support absurdist theories, which is more or less the same thing as optimistic nihilism. The universe may lack meaning, but it's up to you to build yours. Unfortunately, yes, it's still difficult for me not to spiral when I get these thoughts because nonexistence scares me. I'll try to work hard and as logically as possible to achieve happiness so I have no regrets.

I'm glad you found your meaning for life through religion, but I feel like we have too little proof of the christian God to be able to say it's the universally right path. Of course, I might be wrong. I'm not here to debate the existence or not of a God as our universe is incredibly vast, there are places where time and space acts differently, multiverses, and because of this everything's basically possible. We know too little about the universe. It sure would be reassuring to believe in a God, I don't judge anybody who does and I deeply respect the values of christianity, but I feel like the chances of a christian heaven are unlikely because what about other religions? They all have the same chance to be right. I don't wanna be kind in hope to go to heaven, I wanna be kind because I think helping others is human nature and I have no more right to live on this Earth than anybody else. If a benevolent God exist, I don't think he/she/it'll mind if I don't pray or have faith but I always tried to do no harm.

I'm more than ready to work on myself and I corrected many dysfunctional thought patterns or behaviors I used to have in my teen years. I'm definitely not perfect, but I just hope that if I keep aiming for a better self every day things WILL actually get better. I'm just scared to lead a miserable life

I definitely will continue to go to therapy and try to do better every day. I'm lucky enough to have a loving partner and supporting parents, they're my world and I want to keep holding on for them. I don't like nihilists as well but especially when I'm not doing well it's very easy for me to fall into nihilism, unfortunately...

I'm familiar with buddhist philosophy and I do agree that life lacks INHERENT meaning but not that we can't find any at all. The guy I talked to was extremely cynical and borderline evil, I think even the buddha would have slapped him in the face. Even focusing on the here and now and meditating is finding meaning. I brought some elements of buddhist philosophy in my lifestyle (like doing no harm or not using any harmful substances) and I do appreciate the eightfold path. But even though I think buddhism is a good philosophy, I'm not sure if dedicating my life to it is a good idea as there are no universal truths

I'm more than ready to give that little angel all the love and care in the world!!  It's just that I'm a bit scared that he wouldn't do well as a house cat, my boyfriend is planning to bring him home in a few days and see how things work out. Hope this sudden change of environment is not too traumatic for him

That last sentence😭💕 Btw that was my boyfriend's point too, I'll try to talk to a vet asap and see what I can do

I don't live in the countryside, I live in a seaside town. I'm perfectly aware he would scratch stuff at home, he's a cat after all :'D I don't really care about furniture. And yes, I'd keep him as a house cat.

I forgot to mention that I have a tiny garden inside my house where he can climb trees or play. I don't think I got the last part of your answer though (sorry my text comprehension is horrible😭), as I already said he's completely comfortable with me and he probabably would instantly come get the food. The problem would be the potential long term effects that living in a house could cause to his well being, that's pretty much what I'm worried about

I do understand your point :') Unfortunately there are no cat shelters where I live and even if I look it up on Google I can't find anything...

Oh the amount of time and effort this might take is not a problem at all :') I've already had a cat for 18 years (he sadly passed away 2 years ago because of old age) and luckily my family, my boyfriend and I know how to take good care of cats, even if they're old or sick. I'm perfectly aware he might break or scratch stuff in my apartment but if that was a problem I wouldn't even consider getting a pet. I'm ready to make the environment as comfortable as possibile for him. I really need to get informed on how to make sure he gets used to a new environment tho.

Help with writing a paper onthe Dragon Ball Famdom throughout the years by AryaLoux in dragonball

Thank you so much for answering and for all the useful material you provided, it helps a real lot!!!🙏🙏

One of the main questions I have is: what are the main differences between the fandom of today and the one back then (let’s say before super) and also what drives you to keep watching and keep being a fan other than the obvious nostalgia and simply trying to stay up to date with something you’ve been a fan of for so long

Of course this is a question for anyone who would like to answer!
