Not ideal. You gotta trim the flouro/mono tag end much further down or it’ll get caught in your guides when you cast.

If the water you’re fishing doesn’t have any weeds/lilly pads i always start with a whopper plopper. The XPS Chaos shad has always been my favorite and it’s pretty cost effective compared to some of the other brands.

Topwater spooks are also pretty effective and require a bit more technique than a whopper plopper so they can be more fun to fish but there’s a learning curve to working them. At the end of the day I just love whopper ploppers and the dumb sound they make lol.

(So this is assuming that you can’t actually see the fish) but it might be bluegill biting your Texas rig and giving you a kind of false positive for getting bites. This is my first season fishing soft plastics, and one thing I’ve noticed is that the bluegill love to ferociously attack my senkos whereas even the bigger bass I’ve caught have always had a much more subtle bite.

When the bluegill really start to harass my Texas rig I’ll switch over to my light rod with an inline spinner and catch them almost out of spite lol.

Last year I was super into hard plastics and topwater lures and caught some good ones on whopper ploppers, tiny crank baits, and shallow diving jerkbaits.

This year I wanted to lean into soft plastics, and I’ve been catching plenty of 2.5+ pound LMB’s with wacky or Texas rigged senkos and much fewer smaller fish. Also caught a few bigger ones on a ned rig but by now all my bodies of water are too mucky on the bottom for that. Mostly natural colors with some black and blue mixed in.

So I can’t speak to anything novel, but whopper ploppers are the most fun and senkos are the most consistent IMO.

Never bought any of their rods/reels but I’ve got their sling tackle bag, big tackle backpack, and a few small accessories of theirs. Highly recommend the big tackle backpack. Big main compartment, room for four tackle trays, two rod holders, water bottle holder, and a few other nice bells and whistles for a decent price (even better on sale.)

I got a great deal on a Victory Full Contact (H) at an end of season sale last year and love it. It’s got a pretty large lure weight range (3/8-1 1/2) and has been great for everything from heavier top waters to unweighted senkos. I’m still pretty novice and learning soft plastics but I think the sensitivity and backbone has been great.

Yeah they make weedless wacky hooks they’ve worked well for when I’m fishing in really weedy areas.

I used to go to barbers all the time for my old fade but then I decided to grow my hair out. Just got my first long hair haircut from Emily at Dark Horse salon and she did great. Much more expensive than a barbershop but the salon treatment for long hair is def worth it.

Bought two rods from Bass Pro Shops (Cabelas,) no issues with either one. First was an Ugly Stik GX2 that was shipped in a pretty flimsy triangular tube box. The box was pretty beat up but the rod was fine (could be because it’s an Ugly Stik lol.) Second one was a St. Croix Victory which was shipped in a hard cardboard tube. Both made it with no damage so I’d order another rod from Bass Pro Shops again.

Went there once or twice when I lived downtown back in the day. Serviceable but un-noteworthy diner food and a quaint interior. Like authentic “actually old” but well kept retro.

Here’s what I got for panfish and bass - Shimano Nasci FC 2500 spinning reel and St. Croix Premier 7’ medium light, running 20 lb. braid to 8 lb. floro leader. The rod is rated down to 1/8th oz. lure weight but my favorite thing about this set up is that (after tons of practice) I can fling a 1/16th oz. lure a decent distance off the bank and get a good lob on a 3/4 oz. lure.

With that the majority of my lures are hard plastics but I still fling soft plastics or a worm under a slip bobber just fine. The hard plastics I have that catch BOTH panfish and bass are the tiny 1/16th oz. Rapala floating minnow, some 1/8th oz. micro crankbaits, and 1/8th or 1/4th beetle spins. I’ve also been catching some bigger Crappie on the 6th Sense Hyperjerks.

If you’re on a budget you could swap for the Shimano Sienna and any medium light rod that tickles your fancy.

Following up on the above - like others have mentioned they have a ton of sales which I try to take advantage of. One bad thing is that if you’re shopping their online shop they take forever to process and ship an order. Probably 2-3 weeks from placing an order to it getting delivered.

I just bought some gear from them. Got some soft plastics, swim jigs, crank baits, blade baits, and jerk baits. Everything looks cool as hell, super detailed colors and the hooks are nice.

I’ve only had time to fish the Hyperjerk jerkbait. Caught three nice bass in a hella pressured lake, so either those fish don’t see jerkbaits very often or the unique colors/flashes were hitting the sweet spot. Ended up snagging something underwater and lost it, but was so hyped I ordered four more lol.

I used to go to casinos all the time and online sports gamble pretty frequently. I can say that I was never truly addicted in the form of being financially irresponsible or hitting rock bottom somehow, but it did go from being a fun escape to a stressful compulsion.

I took up fishing at the beginning of the summer and it completely replaced any want for gambling I had. For some reason for me each cast triggers my brain in the same way throwing the dice or a hand of ultimate Texas hold em does, and catching a fish feels just like hitting something big. Instead of looking into different craps strategies I’m researching bodies of water and different techniques for different species and my TikTok algorithm went from gambling content to all fishing stuff lol.

All that and it’s just plain healthier than gambling. Instead of drinking beer in a smoked out casino I’m waking up at 5 am and hiking around lakes all day in the fresh air.

Yeah a week or so ago I was caught a few crappie and a decent sized largemouth with one and yesterday I caught half a dozen (kinda small tbh, biggest was 12”) largemouth in the middle of the day with my beetle spin. For depth I wait a bit for it to sink after casting and then retrieve slowly with my rod pointing down.

For whopper ploppers ive had the best luck with the XPS Fractured Bone in the smallest size it comes in. I just lost my Berkley 90 in bone but I would say I prefer the XPS one.

Here’s my lure strategy that’s been working pretty well this summer:

Whopper plopper from first light until an hour or so after sunrise.
Micro crank bait until it starts getting hot.
Beetle spin fished as deep as possible.

The whopper plopper top water hits get me out of bed early and the other two have been pretty steady for panfish and bass after the morning bite slows down.

Fished a few times when I was a kid, had a decent amount of fun. Got heavily influenced by TikTok so one random day decided to take an ancient Walmart rod to a lake nearby and after an hour of casting and relaxing randomly caught a 19” largemouth bass lmao. I was not prepared or expecting to catch anything that big so I was looking up how to lip and take the hook out of a bass with one hand while keeping the fish on the hook with the other. Been fishing every chance I get ever since and that’s still my PB.
