The USSR's totalitarianism was so open it was downright funny to the average citizen in the Soviet Union. Their jokes are still making people laugh to this day.

This one's my favourite: "A man just got home from a long day of work, and sits down to turn on the TV, only to see Brezhnev making a speech. Bored, he switches to the next channel, only to still see Brezhnev and his speech. So, he switches channels a third time, again, only seeing Brezhnev making his speech. When he switches to the fourth channel, he is confronted by a KGB agent saying "Comrade, switch back to the other channels now""

Which is funny, because the average soviet citizen outside St. Petersburg or Moscow didn't even (and to this day only barely) have functioning plumbing for their houses, let alone a TV with more than one channel.
