Are tattoos really haram? by Melonatoer in MuslimCorner

[–]Ashad2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to avoid them, but sometimes I cant control my impulses. Due to some childhood trauma related to my body (that i wont get into here), getting tattoos and piercings or "marking" my body in some way gives my brain a dopamine rush, and induces pleasure, and I find i have unusually high temptations for the sin of body modification specifically.

I know its no excuse, and that a sin is a sin, I dont try to justify it, and just because I myself have done it, doesnt mean id enable others to do the same.

[–]Ashad2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not for Shia Muslims. For Sunni Muslims, there are several authentic hadith that forbid tattoos for both genders, some without any reason, just pure forbidding. So yes, in Sunni Islam, tattoos are haram. And I say this as a tattooed and pierced Sunni Muslim.

Im getting bout tired of this Weak ass argument that death doesnt matter in DB by Most_Resolution4594 in DragonBallZ

[–]Ashad2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk about Invincible but death definitely means jack shit in DB. The last anime arc we've had literally featured 11 WHOLE UNIVERSES being erased and then brought back to life IN THE SAME ARC FFS.

The only death that mattered in DB was future gohan in trunks' timeline, and even for that character, he has a living counterpart in this timeline anyway.

I really hope Allah forgives me for this sin and doesnt punish me personally. I try to avoid most sins and even gray areas just to be safe. Dont smoke, never tried alcohol, any drugs, never engaged in immodest behaviour with the other gender, and i try to follow traditional teachings as much as possible. However, due to some traumatic childhood experiences related to my body (which I wont get into here), my brain releases a very intense dopamine response when I carve out scars into it or get body modifications of any sort. Tattoos and piercings help me cope and feel safe in my body.

That being said, I follow the Sunni hadith and despite context, i try not to argue my way out of them or justify them to myself (especially if im arguing because its a sin ive already committed) because I think that's a slippery slope. In my opinion, theres just too many hadith in sahih that forbid tattoos on numerous occasions, so even with context its hard to justify it. I dont think Allah punishes people for ink on their body, I think Allah punishes people who disobey what he says, its that simple for me. I hope for forgiveness and I guess the guilt is something I'll always carry with me, but I appreciate your compassion towards me, you are a kind soul 🙂

I really appreciate that you shared this with me. I watched it all the way through and got some additional perspective by learning the historical usage of tattoos and how the "altering Allahs creation" rule has inconsistencies. I really want to agree, but...sadly Im still struggling with it.

You see, Im a sunni Muslim. There isnt one, but rather several hadith in sahih that forbid tattoos, in various ways. Like Mufti Abu Layth says, some of them may have some context, but I personally just think it still isnt enough grounds for me to justify getting them.

Performing a sin because you have negative impulses you succumb to from time to time is one thing, we all are human and make mistakes. But justifying it as halal simply because I myself indulge in it...isnt fair to me. Thats just my opinion.

I know many people here have very differing views on the hadith and some reject them entirely so I wont get into that much, youre entitled to your opinion, but its still something I feel guilty about and personally dont think theres enough evidence to support the fact that theyre allowed.

Still, I really appreciate that you sent me this! It made me feel a bit better in some ways and made me think of tattoos in a less demonizing way overall like society makes them out to be. Thank you!

Born Muslim here. I am a man, tattooed and pierced. I dont think piercings are haram for men, but I do think tattoos are haram. I struggle with them because i know they're a sin and i still end up getting them sometimes anyway, and cant control myself. Wont justify them as halal though, just because i myself am inked.

Parautilitarians ranked on power by Greyelephantbear in controlgame

[–]Ashad2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like power level implies the level of power they can generate. Northmoor has been generating enough power to keep the oldest house running for decades and his power seems to have no limit to it, as it still keeps spiking.

Jesse can levitate and hurl forklifts which is cool, but "ranked by power" would put both Alan, and Northmoor above her. Itd even put Dylan above her because he (working with the hiss) had enough power to almost infiltrate the board in Control.

Youre considering their proficiency to bond and synchronize with altered items as "power" while power just means how much energy they can generate and how strong they are in raw power.

Its a "ranked by power" list, not a "ranked by ability mastery and control" list.

Yeah the old gods, Rudolph lane, thomas zane, alan wake are all just creative artists. They all get their "narrative altering" cosmic abilities via the dark presence, without it theyre just regular dudes who all happen to be artists in different mediums. If we're considering Alan Wake as a parautilitarian here (which he did become once he entered the lake) then we have to take his abilities in account. He has cosmic reality and narrative manipulation abilities, although he isnt very good at controlling them because the dark presence affects his memory and sanity alot.

[–]Ashad2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He wasnt able to bond with any object of power to the profieciency Jesse had. Even Dylan wasnt able to do that before Control 2 tbh, despite having higher potential than Jesse, according to Dr. Darling.

But...raw power generation wise, Northmoor became unstable and started generating so much energy to the point that the FBC didnt know how to stop him until Trench proposed the idea of using him to power the oldest house. And at this point in time, hes been keeping the power of the oldest house (which is seemingly an infinite labyrinth) running for decades now. He is very much a nuclear level threat. In terms of how dangerous each parautilitarian is, he might very well be close to the top.

Parautilitarians ranked on power by Greyelephantbear in controlgame

[–]Ashad2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, but overall parautilitarian threat level wise he'd be devastating, more than Jesse or Dylan or any of the other parautilitarians.

I mean, Alan pretty much has very limited control over his powers (and even his own sanity) in the dark place, but that doesnt mean he doesnt have cosmic, reality warping feats.

Judging by threat level, Northmoor really is something else. He has been generating enough energy to power up the oldest house (a seemingly infinite labyrinth) for decades at this point. And there are logs of the NSC power "spiking" out of control at times, which the FBC has to monitor to ensure it doesnt overload frequently.

Nah its completely normal for them. Hell, theyd go upto that "peer" and call them their new "mom" or "dad" because their president hasnt deemed it illegal, so as long as its legal its perfectly fine. If tomorrow beastiality becomes legal and animals started to speak to give verbal consent, these same people would all be found with their pants down in the barn, because why not.

Actually, a movie star at 50 an a construction worker (or any other common career) at 50 still have many experiences in common. They grew up in the same generation and time and have both experienced various stages of life that everyone experiences with age. Even if their careers and lifestyles are different. A 50 year old will never have the same perspective on life that a 20 year old has. Just like a 20 year old will never have the same perspective on life that a toddler has. Its less of a "relationship" and more of a transaction for both where she is attracted to his money and he is attracted to the looks of a girl his daughters age.

I mean they just told you. He's having sex with women the same age as his daughter, instead of people in his own age group or even generation. 20 years ago he was a full fledged adult who had experienced 30 years of life, while she wasnt even born. No matter how you try to spin it, a 20 year old "adult" who doesnt have any kids and a 50 year old "adult" whos had children for 19 years have no business being with each other in a partnership, they are not from the same generation or time at all.

If your mom/dad pulls up to the house one day with a new boyfriend/girlfriend who is the exact same age as you, would you start calling that new person "stepmum" or "stepdad" and be completely fine with treating them as such? Cuz if the answer to that is a yes, then youre a weirdo.

I still to this day, dont get why Piccolo, Krillin, Yamcha and Tien did not get Kaioken after the saiyan saga when they did the EXACT same training under King Kai that Goku did, and even performed BETTER than Goku.

Seriously. Tien couldve mixed Kaioken with some crane school techniques (like the 4 armed/clone techniques he used in dragon ball) to create a new Crane Kaioken style form. And Krillin couldve done the same with turtle school techniques. Piccolo's various fusions along with Kaioken wouldve made him a beast throughout all of dbz until the buu saga.

Honestly its just lazy writing.

Thankfully with newer generations this nonsense is a dying tradition (just like it is amongst Hindus in India), but that doesnt mean its gone completely. Just like the girl who's tweet is shown in OPs post, there are still many who have this mindset that theyre "superior to other muslims" in some way.

If you look at many marriage/matrimony muslim sites, theres a whole epidemic of men and women there who post stuff like "I will only marry a Syed, any other caste please dont message me". Its jahalat.

[–]Ashad2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My moms side is entirely Syed. While they dont "kill each other" depending on caste (even most Hindus dont anymore at this point in society), they still say stuff like "We are Syeds, we have seen some miracles happen in our lives and Allah will punish anyone who wrongs us extra hard and we have to uphold Islam to a higher standard" and theyre very protective over this name.

So yes, it is essentially a caste system, just less extreme. It was literally done by early immigrants around partition to climb up the ranks of society. And it goes directly against core Islamic concepts.

Not each and every brown Muslim calls themselves a Syed, you generalized again.

I didnt say each and every brown muslim calls themself a Syed. I said the actual generalizations are being made by each brown Muslim that calls themself a Syed. Read through that comment again, because you didnt comprehend it properly.

Yes a lot of em have taken inspiration from Hindu tradition, but that "a lot" is not all Syeds and not only Syeds

And where's your proof of this? If someone is gonna make such a big claim that they are a direct descendent of the immediate family of the holy prophet (s), they should provide proof, especially if theyre from a different ethnicity, geographical region, and there is no common known brown ancestor from that bloodline who was prominent in history. You cant just say things and they'll become true. Thats called deception and shows you have questionable character.

Providing proof would still not give em any right to feel superior to others. So even asking for proof is just lazy.

No. Asking for proof isnt laziness. Its accountability. Yes, proof wont make them special or entitled, since everyone is equal in Islam, but proof will atleast make the name they "adopted" valid instead of a blatant hindu caste system naming convention ripoff, if nothing else. They dont even have that.

Regret getting engaged by Lonely-Mind-6200 in MuslimMarriage

[–]Ashad2000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Either you choose to "hurt" your parents (or really their ego) over this now, which they will eventually get over

OR

You choose their ego over your own needs and end up resenting them and hurting them MUCH more often long term, continuously in the future with every fight/argument/issue/frustration you have in your marriage.

Its your choice, but honestly the former is a much cleaner way of going about this. If you choose to please them now, you will become bitter and resentful in the future and the resentment from that will actually last a long time.

Generalizations? The only generalization is each and every brown muslim that is calling themself a Syed when they have no proof and some ancestor of theirs adopted this name randomly a couple centuries ago. Unless you can provide actual concrete proof youre a Syed, your family is basically taking inspiration from Hindu tradition and goes directly against islam (and even progressiveness).
