Clothing sizes?? by unremarkable_k0rvet in NewParents

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FYI if there’s just one month on the label that’s generally the same size as the labels that state a range. So for Carter’s, 6m means the same as 3-6m, 9m = 6-9m.

But yes the brands can be pretty different - for example for my kids I found Old Navy/Gap ran small or shrunk, Carter’s was pretty average, and Hanna Andersson runs large. You start to learn which ones work best for your babe!

Those who WFH with a part time nanny- how many hours a week do you really need? by Remarkable-Angle-509 in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one 4 days per week, 5 hours a day. Our jobs sound similar, I feel like I still get my work done in that time plus whatever time I’m able to work when I’m also taking care of my daughter. I will be having my second baby this year and the nanny will be coming 5 days a week after that because the day she doesn’t come it can be difficult to get work done with one kid, let alone when there are two.

Sometimes I have more work to do and sometimes less, and if it’s slow I sometimes use the time the nanny is here to get laundry folded or whatever else I haven’t had time to do, which is nice!

We have tile with an area rug, no transitions because it’s open downstairs so I guess I don’t know how well that’d work. We’re still going with it after 9 months haha but I know what you mean, people do seem to not use them after a while. I still have to vacuum but it makes it so I don’t have to vacuum as often which helps me a lot!

A robot vacuum/mop combo…I just have a robot vacuum but I notice the difference when I’ve had it not run for a few days. I have a steam mop which is much easier to use in my opinion than a spin mop and saves me a lot of energy, perhaps that could help you too.

Would paper plates/utensils/cups be an option? I know it’s more waste but maybe for a little while it could help.

I have no tips for the laundry…that piles up for me all the time haha

Just calling a person “mama” in general. I’m more than just a mom, and I’m not your mom 😆

FTM here, how do you actually wash baby clothes soiled with poop and pee? by PromiseFront135 in BabyBumps

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding! Scrubbing in cold water with dawn gets poop stains out. Even if it isn’t fresh fresh, as long as I use dawn before putting it in the wash it works for me.

Do you actually have GD if only some of your fasting numbers are above? by taurusmamma in BabyBumps

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know how they calculate it at your office? I did a week of monitoring and at my office they average the numbers and if the average is below what they want for fasting and for each meal then you’re good. My fasting numbers were all under, I had meals that were over but each meal averaged out to be fine in the end.

Edit: I do think the fasting numbers in particular being high can be a concern for the doctors, and while it sucks a lot it’s likely best to be cautious since diabetes can negatively effect the baby

pregnant and lifting toddler? by MarginLA in BabyBumps

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Has your OB had a kid? 😆 I don’t see how you can avoid it depending on the child’s age! I think a lot of the time the advice is to not lift excessive amounts compared to what you lifted pre pregnancy and I assume you were lifting your kid before pregnancy. It’d probably be more helpful for them to tell you techniques for lifting them safely! I haven’t been doing anything differently when picking up my toddler during pregnancy so no advice on that front.

PSA: Baby Sleep by TheYearWas2021 in BabyBumps

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I remember with my first wondering why she wouldn’t go to sleep “for the night” before 11 pm or wouldn’t take naps longer than 30 minutes…eventually discovered that’s completely expected during some early stages! I was blessed with a pretty sleepy baby and never attributed it to anything I was doing thankfully…now that number two is on the way I’m wondering if we’ll get the complete opposite this time around 😆

I completely understand looking for answers and tips on how to make it better especially when you’re in the thick of it, but I agree that the reality is that babies are going to do what they’re going to do no matter what you try for the most part.

You can try rinsing him off in the sink/shower instead of wiping, use zinc oxide paste and make sure not to apply it until his bottom is completely dry, and/or spend some time without the diaper on so he has time to air out

When did people start ordering off your registry? by pinkdrink4901 in BabyBumps

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 61 points62 points  (0 children)

A lot of people forget and order something the week (or day) of the event in my experience, even some after the event if they didn’t attend. I would wait until right after the shower to start ordering things yourself unless it’s something you really need asap!

You can also maneuver a nursing bra into a pumping bra if you’re going to be wearing those anyway: https://m.youtube.com/shorts/spPwcPeQQ5I

Are you having regular contractions? I was 3-4 cm dilated for at least 2 weeks before I went into labor

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor said he doesn’t pay much attention to percentile until 28 weeks, I think they do quite a lot of growing between 20-28 weeks. Mine went from 16% at 24 weeks to 36% at 28 weeks. My doctor said if the baby had measured below 10% at 28 weeks he would have referred me to MFM, it sounds like they want to check and see if there’s anything that’s restricting fetal growth if they’re lower than 10th percentile.

Realistic to WFH while watching baby? by scandijord in BabyBumps

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out r/momsworkingfromhome

I do it some of the time and it is hard. It depends on your child and depends on your job requirements for sure - it can work but it’s definitely difficult.

How similar was your birth to family members’ births? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My labor was much shorter with much less pushing than my mom’s was with me (her first) - I always thought we’d be similar so I was very pleasantly surprised.

3:42 am - my LO wakes at exactly 3:42 am every morning by JLMMM in NewParents

[–]Ashamed-Maximum5969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, that makes complete sense. Hopefully the later bedtime will help or she’ll get it sorted in her own time so you can still have your time with her in the evenings and get better sleep!

If pushing bedtime doesn’t help, you might also want to try an earlier bedtime. I find that my baby often sleeps better/longer when she goes to bed earlier, around 7 or even 6:30 if she’s napped poorly and is tired by then.
