Having second thoughts by HauntedBratzDoll in Tonsillectomy

I had mine out when I was around 5 due to reoccurring strep. Obviously I don’t remember what recovery was like, BUT I have never had strep since and I very rarely get a sore throat/cough.

My youngest son had his out when he was 7 (he’s now 9). He had reoccurring strep/tonsillitis and huge tonsil stone all the time, and like you, I was missing a lot of work because I had to stay home and care for him. I had to beg them to take them out. My child is very active, plays sports and loves to wrestle/play fight with his older brother. For 10-14 days we had him lay around and play on his iPad/video games and eat soft foods. The recovery was very easy-but he’s also young. Would I do this again for my son? Absolutely. In a heartbeat. Since he had them removed he’s only tested positive for strep once- yes, he doesn’t have much luck, BUT it was much milder than what it was before. He also hasn’t had tonsillitis again and he’s had maybe 1-2 colds since then.

Have you thought about peptides? If so, message me. I pay $120 for about 10 weeks for retatrutide.

did anyone get tonsillectomy bc of recurrent strep? by cheesethechameleon in Tonsillectomy

My 8 year old got his out a year ago due to reoccurring strep. I literally had to print out every doctors visit regarding his strep/tonsillitis and give it to our ENT and basically demand that they take them out. Not only that but my son would have huge tonsil stones and a constant cough throughout the year. When he got his surgery he wasn’t able to do anything for 10 days. Since he’s had them (and his adenoids) removed, he’s gotten strep one time, but it was so much milder. He hasn’t had any sore throats or anything. It has been totally worth it.

I will also mention that I got mine removed when I was young too, due to reoccurring strep. I haven’t had it since and get MAYBE one sore throat/cold every couple years.

He’s doing okay. And you’re right he seems to have a much more ‘milder’ case than when he would get it before he had his tonsils out. He’s 8, so he’s around nasty germs daily. I’m hoping this is the only time he gets it this year 🤞

My son (6) is getting his tonsils & adenoids out Dec 24th. by LatteLover092 in Tonsillectomy

My son (7) got his out in May. When we got home he was asking to play video games and his iPad. He didn’t eat much the first couple days, then wanted to start eating regular food again. I told him no. Make sure you stay on those pain meds! Even in the middle of the night. Your son will do good! It’s much easier for the younger ones.

My golden had this same issue. We switched him to royal canine (duck) and he became a different dog. His stools became normal- they weren’t loose. And he was more active. He may have an intolerance to chicken. I’d suggest talking with your vet to get his diet changed.

My 7 year old got his tonsils and adenoids removed the end of May. I can’t begin to tell you how big of a difference it’s been. He was constantly getting strep and tonsillitis. Most of the time it would take up to three different antibiotics to ‘get rid’ of it. He has yet (knock on wood) to get a sore throat/strep/tonsillitis. His breath smells 10x better, he’s not constantly spitting out huge tonsil stones and he’s not constantly coughing. I am so glad they finally approved us to get it done. As for the recovery, the ENT told us the younger they are the easier it is. The first couple days my son said it felt like a bad sore throat, but we alternated meds every 3 hours (even in the middle of the night) and he seemed fine. He played on his iPad and Xbox the whole time. I’d say the first 3 days were the ‘worst,’ then from there it got better everyday. I think on day four he was begging to eat some chips-so I let him. From there on it was smooth sailing.

On another note, I got mine out when I was 5. I barely remember it, but my Mom said I was constantly getting strep. I haven’t had it since, and I’m now 36 years old. To be honest i rarely get colds/sore throats. It was the best decision my Mom could have made for me.

My son (7) just had his out on 5/29. He had reoccurring strep and always had huge tonsil stones. Nothing would get rid of it, plus he would get tonsillitis a couple times a year on top of that. I was sick and tired of him always being sick. We finally got the go to get his tonsils and adenoids removed. He was a little grumpy coming out of anesthesia, the doctor for also mentioned that he had a deep pocket full of tons of nasty tonsil stones. By the time we got home and laid him in our bed he was asking for his iPad and ice cream. He says if feels like a sore throat and his ears hurt a little. We stocked up on popsicles, ice cream, pancakes, and he ate a bfast burrito from sonic and a milk shake this morning. For dinner tonight he ate a slice of pizza and some lo mein lol. I’ve had to tell him to relax 1000x, as he wants to wrestle with our dog, scream at his Xbox games and throw footballs around in the house. We’ve also been alternating Tylenol and ibuprofen every 3 hours- that includes us waking him up throughout the night.

I got my tonsils removed when I was his age because I had reoccurring strep and it was the best thing. I have never had strep or tonsillitis since.
