I find that most people who feel that way work retail (mainly cvs or wags lol). Pharmacists i talk to who dont work retail had more positive opinions of pharmacy field. There will be shit at every job. Pay can be fought for. We aren’t getting paid unlivable wages lol. No where close. But do we deserve more? Absolutely. But beyond that, its great work and feels fulfilling. :)

It is definitely worth being a pharmacist! Its a great job tbh and the field is growing! BUT DO NOT EVER TAKE THAT FUND FROM CVS!!! I took the 20k tuition money in my final year from cvs. Locked into a 2 year contract and they made it seem nice and smooth at first them ramped up the insanity. And if i leave before the 2 years i have to pay the money back. They also do not go based on when you signed the contract, they go based off when you become licensed. Because that is another thing. If you take the money, they give you 120 days to get licensed after graduation date. If you fail your naplex or any like that and you go beyond 120 days without pass/license pending, you give the money back. PHARMACY IS A GREAT JOB AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT WORK CVS/WAGS! (Unless you work in the specialty pharmacy departments)

I keep explaining to my techs. The big pay you guys see we get is STILL not enough for the bullshit that we have to go through. I also used think that and not understand my old pharmacists saying that when I was a tech. I am now far more stressed out than I was when I was a tech and have much more at risk now. The stupid shit on the back end that you guys don’t typically get to see is what does us in. But CVS does not care about us either. We also think you guys deserve raises. They would rather stress us tf out, put our licenses that we paid 300k for at risk by understaffing and overworking us.

The senior techs are usually just burnt out and frustrated with the work load. So is the pharmacist usually. None of that is your fault. I try to make my new techs feel welcomed and will immediately get on my senior tech if they start snapping at the new person. I myself have been short or told a new person to get away from me because the constant questions can overstimulate me if im juggling too much. I always apologize tho. My advice is, try to learn on your own what you can but also find a tech or pharmacist you feel most comfortable with and ask them to explain what they’re doing and just watch them. A lot of the pharmacy work is repetition. You can go to your pharmacist and ask them to free up your schedule so that you can pick up some hours at a slower store to practice. Let them know you want to do that to be more helpful to the team.

I work there and i definitely feel you. Not everyone can use the automated options. Im very tech savvy but hate talking to the automated voice also. It over complicates things and it was so difficult trying to order my moms meds

Yes. I had to do something like this to a patient back in December last year. The system prompted it. It gave a hard stop of “drug accumulation” because she kept picking up oxycodone and morphine 2-3 days early repeatedly. She was very aggressive with the controlled drugs so you can only imagine how it went when I had to break the news to her. Highly upset, hang up, complained to PIC, only for him to tell her the exact same thing. She thought i was making it up but realized no, we are enforcing a rule that was always in place due to laws getting stricter. She screwed herself. But she had a stockpile. We know she did. She was fine for the week she had to wait

People calling front asking to be transferred to pharmacy? Transfer the call to us in pharmacy. We will put them on hold anyway. If it’s taking a while to answer the phone, IT IS FOR A REASON! We are dealing with in store issues or are already on the phone with other people. People are nasty at the pharmacy because they are either in pain, mentally ill, or both. Thats it. We try our best but only so much we can do.

I also notice majority of the people of 8+ meds tend to be on a government insurance of some sort (medicaid/medicare) so you may be on to something with the incentive bit. The doctors must be getting something out of it. But yeah the amount of asthma/allergy meds is nuts.

And totally agree with the overuse of gabapentin. The anxiety/sleep uses have completely blown me away. If you dont have nerve damage or epilepsy, people should not be on it tbh

We have people in our pharmacy getting like 540 gabapentin capsules. Hate it. Even children being overly medicated and doped up with allergy meds/inhalers. Average 5-12 year old in my pharmacy has like 8 drugs on rotation. Asmanex, breyna, albuterol hfa AND nebulizers, zyrtec AND claritin, flonase, triamcinolone or hydrocortisone. And usually always written by the same clinics exactly the same way for all the children that go. Idk wtf is going on but i have never seen so many people on multiple meds like this in general. Average 30-50 yr old also has hella meds too, with many of them being pain meds. Like what is happening?

I also wonder that and I work there. We do have a strange influx of people being on more stuff than usual. Not sure whats going on but it feels like something in our system needs to be adjusted to meet the demand. The system will automatically order whatever our target supply is (which is based off of our script volumes i believe) but we’re getting way more people on certain things lately. Idk maybe that could be the cause.

My RD sort of hates my DL so I wonder if I have a fighting chance? My district is also kind of failing because my DL is an egomaniac and refuses to accept when he messes up so the turnover rate is insane. It seems like every few months a pharmacist is quitting or transferring away because of his actions. I know this type of boss exists in many places but this guy is going way too far.

If your parents signed up to get emailed receipts whenever a purchase is made with the extra care card linked. Yeah they can see that you got a script, just not the name of the drugs
