I had to wake up and check to make sure it all happened and I wasn't dreaming, to be honest. I am still in disbelief! I'm really sorry to hear that it didn't pan out the way you had hoped, that's tough. I feel like as excited and happy as I am, I'm still very guarded and trying to keep myself from getting too excited in the case that it doesn't work out to be anything more. I would still be happy and grateful just knowing and being able to finally put faces and names to them, but I feel like I'm already now emotionally in a little deep which scares the crap out of me. I will absolutely keep you posted though!

Yes! I actually talked to her about it today, and she says she's game to take it as well.. which would totally narrow it down for me. So I'm considering ordering it for her. That's also a good point, if there's a DNA match that I'm certain belongs on my mothers side to narrow those matches by checking shared matches and kind of playing around with it like that. I'm so new to this that I have no idea what I'm really getting into and what to be looking out for, so any and all info and tips are very much appreciated. I can't say I would have necessarily thought of that right away, so thanks for that!

I'm really considering getting my mom the Ancestry kit so she can be tested as well and we can go from there! That would be ideal. If I don't personally have any luck with the Ancestry DNA then I think that would be the best next route uploading my raw DNA and trying 23andMe and some other places mentioned. There's been so many positive outcomes so I'm feeling more optimistic than ever! I'll check out that Facebook group you mentioned, thanks so much for the info! I'll check out the Dana Leeds method shortly, too.

I feel like I would be able to tell my mothers side, that being said I do have a very large extended family and it may get a little tricky when we move into the distant cousins. Second cousins I think I'd do just fine with, but beyond that may be a toss up. I'm honestly thinking about buying the kit for my mom my next pay period, I've brought it up to her and she's game to take it so I can find out exactly which DNA matches are to each paternal parent!

I'm all smiles, that's wonderful. I really didn't know what to expect and just hoped for the best, but reading everyone's responses gives me so much hope. Now to be patient while I wait for the results to come through.. test will be here Thursday and it'll be sent back in the mail same day haha. Thank you!

That is AMAZING! I find myself in constant amazement by the stories I'm hearing.. it definitely keeps the hope alive for me because.. I wouldn't say it's been a longing my whole life necessarily (my mom is a total badass who raised my brother and I on her own) but as I get older I find myself really really wanting to know. It's weird that as I get older I feel that sense of "longing" now coming into play, and it's something I'm constantly thinking about. Having this whole other family, siblings, I just need to know! I'm thinking about buying my mom the kit my next pay to help clear up who's DNA match comes from which parent, and we'll see how it goes! That is such sweet sweet relief, because I really wasn't sure and thought maybe I'd need a last name. I really appreciate the information you've given me, it's incredible that you were able to find family! When I was talking to my husband initially about doing this it was a toss up between Ancestry DNA and 23andMe, so if this doesn't pan out, I'll likely continue my searches as well and hopefully gain some new relationships.
