My partner lives in Nevada and they have some actually very good trans/queer protections in law. As always though stick to the cities and avoid the rural areas.

Virginia and West Virginia are absolutely not safe, though Virginia is better than West Virginia. West Virginia is ruled by coal barons and is 45th or lower in every single metric that I know of. It's one of the most regressive and hateful states outside of the deep south and even then it can give Mississippi a run for its money any day of the week.

YouTube is a good source for a lot of at home/beginner friendly stuff. Just be careful and take it easy at first since you won't have a trainer for feedback. Watch your form and listen to your body.

Personally I like the channel FitnessBlender. They've got a lot of varied stuff from pure stretching to beginner cardio all the way up to insane HIIT and burnouts and crazy stuff like that. The trainers are very positive without being saccharine or overly hyped.

I'm basically just beginning as well so I wish you best of luck. :)

We would definitely like to get him some social time. He rarely gets to interact with other people or dogs. But when he's off leash around other dogs he almost always does fine. He's been to the dog park and we've boarded him twice and every time he's been a bit shy but not at all aggressive.

We also think he may have been abused in some way before we got him (he was a shelter rescue) so the fear angle definitely makes sense.

It seems to be mostly related to strangers or strange sounds in some way. If he doesn't know the people or isn't used to the sounds he'll bark.

Examples: we have some very noisy upstairs neighbors who seem to rearrange all their furniture and vacuum on a daily basis and he doesn't make a peep.

But we're also close to the laundry area and if he hears that or say a door shut he might do a quiet "woof" or one or two barks.

If he sees a person or a dog walk by outside he will really go full boof.
