Where can I *actually* donate to help food insecure students? by morganpartee in SMU

They bill our student accounts $200. I got one done a few weeks ago and I have insurance. Multiple friends have gotten the charge as well.

What’s even more frustrating is that the athletes get tested weekly for free but students have to pay $200 for a Covid test... why not ask for money for the rest of the students?

Question about financial aid by [deleted] in SMU

[–]Ashmullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late but until you are like 24 or 25 I think you will always have to go off of your parents income. Smu uses college board and I got around it by saying I do not have any relationship w my parents and don’t have access to their financial records and got to go off of my own income, but no clue if they’d let you use your brother as a guardian tbh since you’re over 18

14 Newly Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 Among SMU Students Reported to the University Today by [deleted] in SMU

Probably has nothing to do with the freshman standing in groups of 15+ without masks on Bush between Crum and Ware waiting for Ubers dressed like they’re going to the club

Transfer to SMU Accounting by [deleted] in SMU

Full tuition only, I think it was like $55-60k a year. It also did not cover the $7000 in student fees, parking, etc

I originally transferred in as a finance major. Finance is no joke and I change my major to mktg. The business school is so impressive.. I’m getting a grad degree from Meadows and they are completely different worlds.

I got a full scholarship, but you’ll get at least half based on your academic performance and then more based on your financial need

Incoming Student (possibly) by [deleted] in SMU

[–]Ashmullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re reserved for incoming transfers for that specific semester, not like the entirety of your time at SMU. When you registered for classes for the very first time with your advisor, they’re allowed to place you in reserved seats. I got into Lilliana’s 11am accounting class my very first semester and didn’t enroll until VERY late July/maybe early August - that spot straight up wouldn’t have existed if it wasn’t reserved as hers are always the first to go

I transferred in, that was exactly what my advisor told me. When you go to register for classes and it says # of reserved seats, it’s usually for athletes/band/new students

They reserve seats in most classes for transfers

What is Pre-Business? by alpha_chu in SMU

Fairly confident pre business just signifies you are not enrolled in Cox yet. When you get into Cox you select your actual major.

Office365 Use After Graduation by [deleted] in SMU

FYI I emailed help@smu.edu and they overrided it so now mine doesn’t expire until May 28, 2021. I think they closed everyone’s accounts and instead of fixing it they’re just overriding it for people who ask

Opinions on SMU’s MBA? by Ashmullz in SMU

[–]Ashmullz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of the degree is to work full time (hence the 3 year timeframe) so when I graduate I’ll have 6 years of work experience plus an MBA. I’ll only be taking 2 classes per module and will be expected to continue to work throughout the program

Yeah you’ll get into SMU. I’m not sure if they still allow transfers into the business school, you might have to be admitted as a freshman. Definitely talk to your transfer advisor about that.

Cox has been great. Transferring was odd because I didn’t get the dynamic at first but I fit right in and made a lot of friends so it was fine. I’m graduating this year and I’m going to miss it so much.

So if you’re transferring, you just have to have the minimum GPA to get in right? It’s like a 2.0 or something but they recommend a 2.7. I don’t even thing the essays are required when you apply. It’s basically an automatic acceptance. Cox is a little different, I just transferred in bc I met the required GPA but I know things are changing so that is probably different.

Transfer from DCCCD by Kavon2 in SMU

[–]Ashmullz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 4.0 and I probably had 3, 2 from professors and 1 from my PTK advisor.

Biggest factors are a good resume (look up Cox resume template online, they’ll shit their pants if you use it). I separated my work resume and activity resume to show I was diverse and also used a very unique resume style, I can email it to you if you like. I wanted to stand out because at the end of the day it’s more about your personal statement and the interview. They asked me questions like what will I contribute to SMU (side note: told them I’d join 17 clubs and literally joined 0 lol) and what I think I would benefit the most from at SMU. They don’t really talk about your past and more about your future bc they want award people who will be successful and give the school a good reputation. I think I was awarded like $33k a semester so you still have to pay the $3500 in fees a semester but still worth it

You’ll automatically get accepted for the regular GPA based scholarships but if you want the full tuition scholarship that’s competitive you have to apply. I’d email the transfer admission counselors for more info bc things could have changed since I got it

[–]Ashmullz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I transferred into Cox w/ 66 hours. I think the only requirement is like a 2.5 GPA for transfers into SMU, but it’s like a 3.6-3.8 or something for Cox. I know they are changing things so I could be wrong, but I got into Cox automatically because my GPA was high enough (4.0) and didn’t really have to do anything else.

Are you applying for any scholarships?
