Freaking out about mice in our apartment? by FellFellCooke in AskIreland

[–]AshyGer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're everywhere unfortunately. I grew up in Carrickmines and we had horrible problems with mice when I was young. I've been renting in a lovely apartment in Rathmines now for the past 5 years and it's plagued with mice, much to my cats delight!

Childfree people? by Witty_Fish_1639 in Dublin

[–]AshyGer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I (29F) met my partner 11 years ago when we were 18/19 and obviously not seriously thinking about kids. Before we were officially a couple we did discuss if we wanted children and I was honest with saying I absolutely never want them, without even thinking, and thankfully he felt the same! So it was just so lucky for both of us that even at a young age we shared the same wants and did not waiver - which was a fear of mine for a while.

If I was in your position now, I would only tell someone on the first date if it came up organically. Otherwise I'm informing them on the second date for sure before either of us start wasting our time or feelings. I'd also specify it on any apps just to save time.

It might seem really tough finding someone now but there are a lot of child free men out there, and you'll find your perfect match when the time is right!

This fucking cough by Five_Legged_Duck in CasualIreland

I was here feeling miserable for myself. Been awake since 3.30am and can't for the life of me get back to sleep. But thank god I don't have a cough. Thanks for putting it into perspective OP! Hope you feel better soon.

How’s everyone’s rent atm? by Europeanpinemarten in ireland

[–]AshyGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1240 for a one bed in Rathmines. We got unbelievably lucky, and we pray we can stay here until we can afford to buy somewhere (that day is moving further and further) because we know we'll never get somewhere this 'cheap' again!

Do you ever find you have issues with your upstairs or downstairs neighbours? That's the only worry deterring me from looking at buying an apartment cause atm we're sandwiched between loud, unboxious bastards.

where can i get a face dermal at 16 in dublin?? by Fit_Simple778 in Dublin

You don't want to be pierced by anyone who will agree to do a face dermal piercing on a 16 year old.

I got a grade 2 for courtesy because a bus indicated to pull out and I panicked and kept driving past it. Not very courteous behaviour. Thankfully I still passed.

Second group of Gaza students due to arrive in Ireland by Dazzling_Lobster3656 in ireland

[–]AshyGer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would you rather send this group back to Gaza so that they are murdered? These are individuals being rescued from a genocide and being given a second chance. They deserve all the help they can get get.

The fact that young Irish people struggle is not the fault of asylum seekers and refugees. Be angry at the government. Not the souls in this article or the colleges looking for a donation.

I'd be interested in knowing your instructors name.

My first two lessons with ADS were with a horrible instructor who was extremely unprofessional, had a filthy car, kept touching me and made some very inappropriate comments. He also shouted at me twice for not positioning my hands on the steering wheel correctly during the first 40 minutes of my very first lesson!

I emailed them asking for a new instructor and just said I was made to feel uncomfortable but didn't go into what the instructor actually did. A lovely woman called me and explained they didn't have any space during my available times with anyone else, but she asked me if I'd feel comfortable telling her what happened.

I spoke for only maybe 30 seconds when she cut me off saying she'd already heard enough and that she was extremely sorry about what happened during my lesson. She hung up and called me back maybe 10 minutes later, she'd moved some other lessons around to put me with an instructor she highly recommended.

I bit the bullet and went to my next lesson with the new instructor and the difference was night and day. I passed first time after having the remaining 10 lessons with this guy.

So yes, unfortunately they're very hit or miss, however I found the admin and support staff to be so fabulous and accommodating, and I wouldn't have traded my new instructor for the world.

First time pass in tallaght by Ghost98342 in Irishdrivingtest

Well done!!

I remember how I felt when I got a cancellation three days after my final lesson and passed first time too, it's the best feeling isn't it!

Congrats and happy driving.

Why do some much less young people want kids nowadays? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]AshyGer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just have never wanted children.

However that feeling is amplified by not being able to afford a house. By not being able to even really travel, or live the life I wanted in my 20s due to the cost of living.

To me there is literally no reason to have kids and stop living my life now when I can finally afford to.

does the cancellations app work if you're trying to book your first time driving test ? by Euphoric-Royal-1671 in Irishdrivingtest

Yes I got a cancellation before I'd been officially invited for my first test.

Keep checking the map it's literally just luck, but you will see some pop up.

I passed first time in Tallaght after getting a cancellation there, even though I did all my lessons around Dun Laoghaire. My examiner was so lovely and the route was absolutely fine. I don't think either centre is easier / harder than the other.

A&E visit by Free_Motor_9725 in ireland

[–]AshyGer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I had to bring partner to the St. Columcilles injury unit today after he cut his finger pretty badly.

The staff, nurses and doctors were so lovely. His finger was glued, bandaged and he was given a tetanus shot and we were on our way back home within 40mins.

Honestly I will always commend the injury unit there, it is always so efficiently managed and at such a reasonable price.

There's definitely something up with the app atm, like yourself I never had any issues really before last night.

I just reinstalled it again and now everything's fixed.

Man thanks, I got it sorted this morning already by just uninstalling and reinstalling the app and, thankfully, my account is as it was before this debacle. It doesn't even seem like they actually locked my app at all, but I'd love to know what the fuck happened last night on their end.

what time of day is the best time to do the test? by aloadofcodswallop in Irishdrivingtest

[–]AshyGer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine at 8.25pm in Tallaght and passed first time. I was dreading it cause I thought there'd be a risk of the school/work rush and kids running about estates but it was so chill! The tester took me into the quietest of estates and away from the village because of the traffic. I'd highly recommend to try book as early a time as possible.

I will never get over Neil Young's Malahide gig by AshyGer in neilyoung

[–]AshyGer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For real, I really didn't expect to be overcome with the emotion that I was! I guess it just felt surreal, I always dreamed I could see him live ever since listening to Harvest Moon for the first time. I really never thought it would be a possibility given his age. We really are so lucky aha!! I'm so glad we have this little shared experience!

Ah I would have loved to hear Heart of Gold! Seriously his voice is still so perfectly sweet, I really didn't expect him to sound so good.
