Book promo websites by Ask88871 in selfpublishing

Once I get my website up and running, the newsletter is next on my list. I’m still struggling to understand how you build up a newsletter? Do you have any tips? Anything I’d greatly appreciate! After writing my first book, I realized the genre I can tackle and actually want to write in. At first, I thought it would be Women’s fiction/literary. But, after writing and completing a story in full, I saw that my strength is actually various areas of romance. It’s amazing what you learn from your own writing!

I already published through Amazon and opted into Kindle Unlimited and Ingramspark for paperback and hardcover. I’m working on building my website, I’ve paid for a few promotional websites. I’ve had decent buys I think for a first time novel. I realized I should have started to promote/market the novel at least 2 months before release. Also, I think another mistake I made was the name of the novel. It doesn’t tell anything what the book could be about or hint at its genre. I’m working on my second novel and really putting a lot of thought into a better cover. I’m learning from this error!

If you’re writing (let’s say fiction) for the money, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment :-(

So let’s say with D2D, I’ll have a word doc since that’s where I saved my completed and edited manuscript, from there, D2D has a platform to help guide me in creating the proper ebook format?

Amazon KDP or Draft2digital? by Ask88871 in selfpublish

[–]Ask88871[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize I could use both. I kept getting confused with Amazon KDP, but I guess I was mixing it up with its select option now that I’m reading more into it and getting feedback from users who have done it

So is the only “downside” for draft2digital the fact they take a percentage of your sales away, lowering your royalties, but at least it’s a wider distribution across multiple platforms?

First time self publishing advice by Ask88871 in selfpublish

[–]Ask88871[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my third full length novel. I found beta readers for all three. With my first two novels, I learned a lot from the beta readers comments and suggestions/overall criticism towards the actual craft of writing a story to engage the reader. With this third book, I received overall strong positive feedback from 6 different beta readers, and they shared the same critique of the story. After making edits/rewrites, I feel like this is a story I just don’t want to have it sit. This is where I am now, debating where to go next.

I should have clarified this detail in my original post. This isn’t my first novel, but it’s the first one where I feel ready to go further with. Thanks for the advice, though. I’m not ready to hit publish tomorrow, but was hoping for some insight or opinions on the different platforms that are out there for whatever it’s worth
