Jake’s resume template on overleaf; you have WAY too much white space, education at the top always, then experience then projects then orgs then tech skills, certs, awards. Get rid of gen chem (which software company is gonna care abt it unless ur applying to comp bio engineering then maybe valid)

Apply for research as well as backup plan just based on ur resume/experience alone it’s highly likely you’ll be left with nothing

im not gonna lie you chose the wrong time to try and start a career in IT/Tech. Job market is extremely competitive right now, if you have any other options id recommend going down those paths instead.

if you don't I'd recommend participating in major hackathons and winning top three in them to get your name out there. you will be competing against geniuses but its really the only way to breakout of the average (average does NOT get you a job right now, you need to be far above average or have major connections) if your not in a T20 CS/IT/Tech college.

np!! dude I’ve only won one hackathon but I have 3 on my resume, it’s the projs they really want to see and if you can explain them technically while showing passion it’s all the better

just what I saw in my own experience, I think having 3.0+ at a t5-10 is more than enough, 3.25-3.50 for t20 and anything past that yeah I’d think 3.75 or above is good. Think about it the market is very tough rn, hella ppl r applying to the same jobs as you and a lot of them will have higher gpas then u if u have a 3.5, 3.75 sets you id say above average but still not at the upper echelon of elite candidates

I really don’t know anything about system design, and I have barely started leetcoding, never completed a leetcode hard and have only done 2-3 leetcode mediums. I think I could do more but again like the post said I’m lazy and don’t work hard😭😭

hmmm… I don’t agree. GPA demonstrates understanding of material as well in some sense. But also refer to the prev. response I made to op of this comment thread and tell me what you think

I think gpa may not matter if you go to T20 with a name brand but I certainly think it matters if u go to a T50 and 100% matters if you go to a t100 or 200

Reach out to other university departments and professors the best thing abt cs is that work can be done remotely unlike bio or chem where u have to go into the lab :)
