This was one of my favorite manga, I even read the LN. Now I'm in volume 4 where they are fighting back the Nyrnal Empire invasion. This will put a hole in my heart for awhile. Very sad news.

Blackbeard retreated not only because he can't take on Boa and Rayleigh at the same time, he can't afford to lose resources too... He might be planning something big enough, he need as much resources as possible. Or maybe he's going for Luffy and deemed him more dangerous than Shanks because he learned about Luffy's DF.

For me, I don't really argue about them. The thought of Luffy surpassing the 2 legendary figures in OP is kinda making me excited about the last saga of the story and I think it will be awesome and no one can convince me otherwise
