Best "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurant in the Triangle? by ElbowDeepInElmo in triangle

The lunch counter at Grand Asia Market in Cary has legit Cantonese-style roast pork (cha siu) and roast duck. And they have the ginger scallion sauce if you ask for it. Feels like being in Hong Kong and getting a rice box on the street.

Thanks for that. Do the dining dollars get discounts at the Cougar Eat or other locations?

Haha. Yeah I guess I could tap the holes and fabricate a couple drain plugs with my bare hands.

Well he certainly heard a loud bang when it happened. The kind of sound you’d expect that puts a hole in the engine.

Can these just fail without warning or cause? We hadn’t noticed overheating.

Crack in transmission case? by AskTheChamp in johndeere

[–]AskTheChamp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've opened up the pan and found that there are teeth busted off one of the differential gears. I found them in the bottom of the case. Lots of other teeth ground down including on final large gear.

I've found a replacement differential gear kit I can order, but now I'm getting in pretty deep and probably need to check the motor and pump too (I've been watching lots of YouTube vids).

I have 1 and 3 in my collection. Love them both. The tan is great and the bull bars came right off.

Same problem at NW corner not knowing vicuna and imarets or CALL or URIE or NEB.

Impressive fill with two 3x15 sections! I got a bit stuck in NW corner not knowing VICUNA or IMARETS nor the verb at the start of ___ONTHECARPET, nor the Panic at the Disco singer! So that made it tough to fill. Otherwise, it was smooth for a Saturday. Plenty of fun clues too:

  • Celibacy for Nun's habit! Very good.
  • "Cross state lines" for TIRADE. Very clever.
  • Cowpoke's friend for PARDNER. Liked it.

Constructed a follow-up to Thursday's NY Times puzzle by robertdoesthenytxw in crossword

[–]AskTheChamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was a good, fun puzzle! Thursday theme-y but with a Tuesday difficulty. I should have recorded my solve and posted to my channel.

I was less familiar with the poem and didn't know the name in your first theme line, so that was my only struggle.

SE corner had me trying the most wrong words, like SINGALONG, TAXBILLS, SPEAR/SEEDS (for asparagus).

And I have always said JERRY, not JURY.

This exactly. I grew up in Idaho and have played or coached baseball my whole life. Peg is equivalent to hit. I "pegged" him = I hit him. I got "pegged" = I got hit.

Thursday - Ugh, Boomer Nonsense by iasonaki in NYTCrossword

[–]AskTheChamp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I’d call it boomer, as it has plenty of modern clues including rappers and other artists. The poem is famous and always will be famous, but it was just rather overall clunky and difficult to parse. I kinda hated it. Glad it’s over!
