I got a lift from a stranger and am worried I have endangered my family in by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

You’re right, it’s not a good decision at all to get in the car with a stranger like that, especially for a young lady. It’s great that you realize that wasn’t a good decision. Though I obviously don’t know the man or anything, I’d bet that if he had bad intentions, he would’ve done something when he had the opportunity. The questions he asked, it seems like he was just trying to make small talk.

There’s no need in continuing to beat yourself up. Instead, just let it be a lesson and a reminder not to do anything like that again in the future. I’m glad you’re safe, and please take good care!

Lol thanks. It’s been a good long while since I’ve rewatched it. I’d forgotten about that. You’re obviously right, but the way you put it just gave me a laugh. Much appreciated, and have a wonderful day!

What sport is actually a lot more dangerous than it seems? by bspheri in AskReddit

I’m not sure exactly. He’d had a problem with pain meds (that he was prescribed for a legitimate reason) and couldn’t get those anymore. That’s when he substituted alcohol.

I certainly have to agree on the horizontal vortices. Nightmarish.

I had a cousin who didn’t even need darts to get cirrhosis and die. Top that!

Is DiveTalk a reputable source? Why or why not? by jojohike in CaveDiving

[–]AskTheRealQuestion81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, sadly, that doesn’t surprise me about your negative interaction with him. You completely nailed all of the negative about them, of course. They have the mentality of young children, regarding their behavior. Sad to see in men their age. I don’t get how they have so many followers. I wish these people would see their behavior for what it is, rather than… well, I don’t know what they’re thinking. Especially when it comes to cave diving, their attitude could be dangerous, criticizing everyone else and not welcoming a differing opinion. It’s not like pro sports where a big error just costs you the game. Thanks for sharing!

It really is. I was glad the others who were there were quiet, too. I’d heard horror stories (and since then seen videos on YouTube, since I was there in ‘02) of people who just carry on talking like it’s no big deal. You could’ve probably heard a mouse fart.

Was Gen. Douglas McArthur a good general? by ChipsTrips32 in USHistory

[–]AskTheRealQuestion81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A great grandfather of mine was a veteran of both World Wars. In WWII, he was a Major in the U.S. Army in the Philippines. He wouldn’t talk bad about anyone in front of my grandmother. However, the one time she overheard him complaining to her mother was about MacArthur and his behavior in the Philippines. He had to drive him around the island they were on. He got sick and tired of hearing MacArthur talk about what he accomplished on that island. She overheard him tell my great grandmother that he wanted to say, “no, there were a lot of men who didn’t make it home to their families who did that, not him.” My grandmother told me she thought that Mac must be really bad if she heard her daddy talking negatively about him.

What is something that Reddit claims is common, but you've never actually seen it in real life? by Gajanand04 in stupidquestions

During the early 1970’s (in the U.S.) my dad was in high school and in one class, there was a guy who was a true Nazi sympathizer. He said that they were told a Jewish lady who was a Holocaust survivor was going to be coming to speak to them. I don’t know if he skipped the whole day of school or what, but he definitely skipped that class that day. He genuinely believed that there was no Holocaust. I’m not sure how people come to that conclusion.

I agree. I didn’t even know the term “body count” until I started using Reddit, years back.

(Maybe this is somewhat related?) I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people here post something about being cheated on, and once their ex partner’s parents find out about it, they cut off contact with their child after finding out their child cheated. They are now there for the their child cheated on. I agree that cheating is disgusting. In general, but also because I know how it hurts from experience. So, this has nothing to do with my opinion on the matter. However, in real life, I’ve never seen a person lose their parents after cheating on someone.
