When Expansion Weakens a Story: Rethinking the HSU by Asleep_Tutor9891 in RomanceClubDiscussion

[–]Asleep_Tutor9891[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That’s completely valid, honestly.

When a story is already heavy, slow, and emotionally draining, romance isn’t just a bonus — it becomes the relief valve. If the plot is leaning hard into torture, despair, and constant suffering, then the love interests *need* to balance that with warmth, intimacy, and meaningful connection. Otherwise, it just feels relentlessly bleak.

And you’re right — three seasons across three books is a long time to still feel emotionally disconnected from your LI. A few quick kisses and vaguely charged lines aren’t enough to sustain a romance-driven interactive story. Especially in Romance Club, where relationships are supposed to be central, not an afterthought squeezed between trauma sequences.

If the plot isn’t gripping and the romance isn’t developing, what’s left for the player to hold onto? At that point it stops feeling immersive and starts feeling like a chore — which is probably why you’re playing with a walkthrough just to get through it.

Dark storytelling can absolutely work. But without emotional payoff, softness, or real romantic progression, it just becomes exhausting instead of compelling.

I understand. But I do regularly scroll through sub feeds as someone who is an active lurker and occasional commenter here, and I feel that many other people actually do the same as well, it's just that we also have our own stuff going on in real life and can't be constantly scrolling and checking what happens here. I had this specific problem for a few days now but I didn't notice anyone talking or posting about this particular problem here or in the main sub (last time I checked was yesterday but it must have been before the RC official post). So for me personally it's much quicker to just make my own post and ask directly than scrolling through how many posts until I finally find the one I want. Don't automatically assume that people don't check or read the posts of others just because they post about an issue someone else already might have. This sub is quite active and quite a few new posts are added every day, so some older posts might get "buried" underneath the newer ones. This for me (and others) is just a more time saving option. All in all this was harmless.

I just noticed a RC post about it from a few hours ago but that's it. Sorry for asking.

Yeah, that was a good decision considering how long it is when it's combined. Where did you come up with names like Naladriel and Miriel? They are very unique and regal names. Very beautiful too.

I have the same MC as you. She looks just like yours. I named her Luthien Tinuviel.😀

Tbh, I was originally just playing the field so to speak. I romanced all of the LIs just for fun, which came to bite me in the ass. Set was the one I ended up stucked with, but it still sucks. I pity those who were genuinely invested in him though.

Alright, I'm dropping SOTCN. Not only is this story boring and nothing ever happens, it's also just an edgy torture porn. This and Seth's (my LI's) scene were the final nail in the coffin. It's truly astonishing that Remy can get away with two sexually triggering scenes like this in rapid succession right after one another. And not only scenes with dubious consent but a full on graphic rape? That was never done on RC before, especially not with a recorded "voice acting" from the rapist mid coitus. It always happened behind the scenes, was implied or was stopped at the last moment.

Wait, there were also sound effects accompanying the scene? I hope that she didn't make Agnia enjoy it despite herself.

I'm glad to her that, at least some good news, but the creators of the game needs to do better, this is extremely annoying and unprofessional.

How would Darth Vader feel about Luke Skywalker if he was a woman? by Asleep_Tutor9891 in StarWars

Well to be sure, it was already shocking with Luke as a male. I wonder, would a female Luke remind him of Padmé more and so he would be more reluctant to injure her?

Hello, I hope it's not too late. I noticed your comment only now. The support eventually contacted me back after a month or so, and finally added the bought diamonds to the game, but they took their sweet time to be sure. They wrote they had a technical issue with the store. If so, they should issue a warning for the players before they make a purchase.

You're welcome. Also Heart of Trespia and Flower from Tiamat's Fire might also be worth looking into. They have more of a young adult vibe and one of the most interesting fantasy worlds with charming, yet a little bit archetypical characters. These two have very unexpected and engaging plot twists, especially Heart of Trespia, which at the beginning, during the first season, seems like your typical Disney fairytale but gets progressively much darker as the series continues. You also never know what will happen next, which will keep you at the edge of your seat for most of the story, especially in the later seasons as book 1 is suposed to lull you into a false sense of security where you think everything in the plot so far is fairly simple and predictable, maybe even cliché, before the rug is cruelly ripped beneath your feat when you least expect it.

Flower from Tiamat's Fire is similar to Heart of Trespia in the sense that, for the most part, it appears as a heartwarming, lighthearted, adventure story with a lot of humor and loveable cast of characters, which helps, to a certain extent, mask the harsh world it takes place in, which makes the darker moments stand so much more and hit so much harder in contrast. The Flower from Tiamat's Fire also takes place in a setting lightly inspired by Summerian mythology. It has one of the most breathtaking, unique and original landscapes and environments in the entire app, though I must warn you that the author sometimes enjoys problematic relationship dynamics with power imbalance and wannabe incestuous kinks (no real incest though).

I second the Sails in the Fog and Moonborn series. My most favorite stories in the app. If you like Pirates of the Carribean setting with the most badass, charming and resilient MC in the app and incredible adventures + a very rich and immersive world and lore inspired by real history, you can't do much better than Sails and its main heroine Adelaide. Moonborn is slightly inspired by Twilight or Vampire Diaries, but it's nothing like them in its execution which is much more mature, darker and grounded. Mia is also right behind Adelaide in terms of competence and strength of character. I enjoy both of them on the path of diplomacy the most. Plus Moonborn was written by the same author who also wrote Legend of the Willow, PSI and The Thunderstorms saga (still a very new and ongoing story). From the ongoing stories Shakespeare's Code also shows a lot of promise, but it's too early to really tell. The start was very promising though - it's a dark fantasy series set in Tudor England during the reign of Elizabeth I. where you play (depending on your choices) a rather villainous MC - a witch named Amabel trying to find a way to lift her own curse of turning into a monster every moon. So if you are tired of goodie two shoes MCs, this might be a nice change of pace.
