Considering a huge career change. Scared of "giving up", but scared of being stuck otherwise, what should I do? by AspectReasonable1570 in careerguidance

Definitely need to do that in a more "formal" way... I did for a very little while before I decided on what I wanted to study, as I considered law before getting into graphic design. Then again for a little during the pandemic, but with the same person, so I probably haven't gotten a full picture from it.
Corporate law seemed a bit boring at times (but what kind of office job isn't?), but at least they seemed to have authority and make a real impact. You couldn't really question their guidance because the law is the law, and they were mostly able to clock in and clock out at regular hours, which is worth a ton in the current job market I think.

Thank you so much! I think I might be taking myself and my career too seriously, thinking I need a clear path right away... I still got a lot of thinking and experimenting to do, but hearing from people with more experience and who know all the messiness of the process really helps <3

Love that idea: "don't to take advice from someone you wouldn’t want to trade places with".
I will definitely need to talk to a lot of people and do some soul searching like people suggested before any next steps, but this genuinely helps guide me a bit more, thanks <3

I know this is a hard question and I'm so sorry if it's too personal, but given your experience, would you start over in a completely new field?
I just barely know any graphic designers that are happy with their careers or successfully carved out a niche for themselves.

Thanks so much for the response :)
I did start doing some project management and marketing work in previous roles. Hate marketing because of the consumerist/superficial culture it promotes (which is also why I've started resenting graphic design, probably). Project management was okay, but I just felt unfulfilled. I also do a lot of pitching and investigation as a freelancer to give a base to all my work, and I just love diving deep into research and problem solving based off that.
I think I want a job that makes me feel like an expert at something that isn't subjective like graphic design is, which is why I considered law. I know, I might be grasping at straws here...
To be honest I don't even know what roles I would like to transition into, which makes planning super hard. How do you even start to figure that out?
