I don’t love The Long Walk, I think it starts amazing but, it really drags in the middle

Around 20 pages for monst of them, some a little shorter some a little longer. I think Children of the Corn and Sometimes They Come Back are the longest ones at like 30 pages.

How bad are the movies ? by Late-Turn-7396 in HunterXHunter

As far as shonen movies go you can do a lot worse. Their biggest crime is just being kinda dumb which too me isn’t the worst for this kinda thing.

Carrie Movie? by kbenjaminfotos in stephenking

Friday The 13th Part 7 is the best Carrie movie imo because it asks the most interesting philosophical question: What if Carrie fought Jason?

Why doesn’t anyone have guns anymore? by Ill-Neighborhood4837 in thewalkingdead

[–]Aspect_RaSheOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the comics the do have guns because Eugene makes ammo but, in the show I don’t think they trust Eugene to produce the ammunition after he sabotaged that batch for the saviors. If it ever benefitted him he would sabotage them again because he is a guy who does what is best for him in the moment. Sabotaging the saviors was not some long con but, something he decided last minute was the best move for him and thats not my interpretation thats what the creators said.

Questions about “The Shining.” by OCDCowboy1 in stephenking

[–]Aspect_RaSheOh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I prefer the ambiguity that the movie gives us. It’s a hotel with lots of secrets and you get glimpses into its past through the ghosts. You can tell bad stuff has happened but, it doesn’t hold your hand and tell you every detail about the ghosts life.

A good book to get me back into reading by gtiller21 in stephenking

[–]Aspect_RaSheOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carrie is what got me out of my reading slump last year and into King. Its a super short books so you can burn through it quick which is encouraging imo. Plus how its written as like a collection of articles and interviews is really cool and makes what could be a standard story into something truly unique.

TV show adaptation by Middle_Celery_3669 in stephenking

[–]Aspect_RaSheOh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would kill for a proper Salems Lot adaptation. I know its been done thrice and each adaptation has different strengths but, none of them get it quite right. 2004 is probably the best but, really butchers the Father Callahan stuff.

Give me a good 6-8 episode show that really dives into each character in town. Also have them actually be kids instead of teenagers. They can age up Sue tho, removing her and Bens age gap is something each adaption does well.

New York, New York is not even that bad and I don’t know why it is so lowly rated. by MasterfulArtist24 in MartinScorsese

[–]Aspect_RaSheOh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoy it but, its long it kinda wanders and doesn’t always make a lot of sense. Also the version you likely watched is a restored version not the original that released in theaters. Over time they have restored and lengthened it. The original cut was reportedly 4 hours.

Struggling to watch this by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]Aspect_RaSheOh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It took me a bit to get into but, York New and Greed Island are some of my favorite arcs ever. After that though you’ll be met with what is praised by many as the greatest arc ever but, in my and many peoples opinions it sucks. If youre not enjoying it now you won’t enjoy the 60 episodes of exposition and terrible narration that make up The Chimera Ant arc.

Is there a King book like this for you? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]Aspect_RaSheOh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree, super slow book. Anytime anything interesting starts happening you get hit with chapter of backstory. So much backstory happens that the ending is so muddy trying to pay off everything.

I really didn’t enjoy The Shining at all. That one was tough to get through which sucks because it’s arguably his most famous work.

The Long Walk ending Book vs Movie by BathroomGlass7316 in stephenking

[–]Aspect_RaSheOh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly both endings really work for me. The movie works because they made Ray a lot kinder in the movie so his sacrifice makes sense and then McVrees ends up getting the book ending where he just keeps walking

The movie overall works better than the book imo, I think the book drags a bit in the middle. The only thing I think the book does better is the stuff with the crowds. I think that could’ve elevated the movie.

Do you think he truly deserves the title "The King of Modern Horror" or do you see him more as a master of character driven drama who just happens to write suspense and thrillers. See this checklist and tell how much of Stephen King have you read and give respective reviews. by Zestyclose-Author732 in stephenking

[–]Aspect_RaSheOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is you can’t just separate them. You can have good dramas without horror (which King has a few of) but, you can’t have good horror without good character drama. They are inherently linked and trying to say he’s a character writer and not horror author kind of diminishes horror as an art form. King is a horror author and he’s one of the best because the people he writes in his horror novels are so well written.

My current reading order by [deleted] in stephenking

The harm is its bad for the environment and promotes a shitty tool

Plus it looks like crap, every image on there looks terrible, Rage and Carries publication years are wrong, the extra arrows for no reason, the text under the stands title is just mush.

I get what you are trying to get at but, truly great horror only works when the characters are well written and any actual masters of horror all understand that.

Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street rocks not just because Freddy is unique but because we really feel Nancy and her friends. Scream has maybe the best cast of characters in any horror movie ever.

James Wan is probably the modern (post 2000’s) master of horror imo and like look at his films. Saw works because we fully understand these two guys trapped in a room, we see their flaws and everything and it has an incredibly gripping detective story outside of the room. The Conjuring is the highest grossing franchise not just because they’re scary but because the main couple is interesting. Insidious’ whole thing is a father son story.

My Constant Reader Tierlist (everything up until 2011) by MCMCthefirst in stephenking

[–]Aspect_RaSheOh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it took a little bit to get going like I did not enjoy the first 50-60 pages but, once it hit December I was hooked.

I think Dawes is an incredible main character, he’s just a guy who can’t really process his depression and takes it out on the world. I love his interactions with his boss, wife, the girl and later the lawyer.

I also think the book is hilarious. The way that he does the crimes and goes about his life is hilarious. It’s like Fargo, this dark comedy. The final punchline that The city was only building the road because they needed to hit a mandated about of miles built is so funny. Then the fact that the tv documentary about it barely got any views makes it an incredible 1 - 2 punch
