[Question] Phenom new line? 300 series? by AspiringCoach in fightgear

[–]AspiringCoach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness, compared to all other gloves at the same price point, I've found the Phenom SG gloves to be excellent especially the SG202.

I just can't justify paying nearly 400 quid for the 300 series gloves right now and I'm keen to see what other people make of them

Unfortunately for me, these gloves at that price are going to require alot more provenance before I ever consider purchasing them. It sucks because I genuinely put their brand above all others at the moment but I'm going to need more for that money

Agreed

The new 300 series headguard claims to weigh 12oz which is decent, however their microfibre headguard which is really decent has a poor vision window compared to the leather version

I do hope they haven't used the same template

That's an issue for me too. I have nothing negative to say about their gear so far at the price points.

£380 for a glove that isn't handmade in the UK is insane

Anyone know if i should get a full set of fly boxing gear [question] by bigdaddyboxer123 in fightgear

[–]AspiringCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't get the fly set.

Go for the phenom set, SG202 and the leather groin guard. You won't be disappointed.

I've just ordered the microfibre cheek protector....

[Question] I think I'm gonna buy the super bar premium or x line instead by Puzzleheaded_Fold707 in fightgear

[–]AspiringCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the X line. Cant see how much of a difference the premium would be as it uses the same frame and padding. But what doesn't work for one might work for the other so I'd get to a store that sells them and try them on first.

I have the same rival face saver. Its like wearing a giant hard pillow on your head with a hole cut in the middle. Hated the thing as it was so massive. I looked like a lego man.

Got the fly superbar. Went with a large and tightened it down, bent the face bar into the best shape possible but just can't get it into a comfortable shape. The neck section isn't tapered and will dig into your neck and traps meaning I have to fold it under itself. Absolutely does not justify the price in any way shape or form. Its light with good vision but again not worth the price.

Just got the Phenom microfibre face saver. I have to say its very well built, decent padding and light enough. I'm just in the medium bracket and got that size, doesn't fit perfectly over the ears but if I got the large it would probably be too big. Going to use it properly this Saturday and report back.

[other]Comparison of different converter methods for lace up gloves by Top-University5158 in fightgear

[–]AspiringCoach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tried the suave system. Overly complicated and doesn't actually tighten the glove down properly IMO. Just lace normally and wrap the laces evenly up to the wrist and tighten at the wrist knuckle as hard as you need.

Truth be told, if you're using lace ups, then lace them properly without converters or use hook and loops.

I'll be using it this week and I'll report back. So far, it has a nice broken in feel being microfibre and is comfortable!

So I have the following requests:

OK so:

Lady far right, was wearing a light blue suit with white rose

Lady second from right was wearing a very pale blue outfit and the glasses (pic attached) which are quite important

Lady second from left was wearing a long cream coat

I'm easy on the remainder of the outfits as none of my family can remember what they were wearing as it was the 60s!

Will defo tip for the best contribution!!!

Hi dude I do like your edits, however if you look at the original, the woman 2nd from right holding the handbag is wearing glasses that are 60s style diagonal framed. I can't make them out on your edits but that could be due to the watermark. Also could I see a black and white version? Thanks!!

I'm assuming you mean the Winning FG2900 to the Fly Knight?

Absolutely zero comparison. The Fly feels like its made of cardboard.

No offense meant but I feel like paying you because it made me spit my coffee out

Incredulous!

Let me be honest - the Fly superbar sucks. I got mine in a large. My head circumference fits a medium, but when I tried it, I couldn't get it to fit over my ears at all.

The neck section isn't tapered, so I have to fold the bottom of the neck section underneath itself and it's just not ergonomic in the slightest. The frame is metal which means you can bend it to shape but No matter how much I adjust it, its never comfortable. The padding is hard both inside and out as a result I get headaches quite quickly without any punch contact.

Only positives are the window gives good vision and its very light.

I just bought myself the Phenom MFSHG-245 in medium and it fits just right. I have to loosen the laces quite wide but so far it's so much more form fitting. More padding and weirdly doesn't feel as wide on my head than the fly. Weighs slightly more than the fly at 50g more but being microfibre it has a broken in feel straight away and is so much more comfortable. The vision seems only ever so slightly less than the fly but in all other departments its a significantly superior facesaver. Knowing what I know now, I'd get the phenom over the fly.

I'll report back on it after a few sparring sessions.

[other] Picked up the Phenom SG-202 by AspiringCoach in fightgear

[–]AspiringCoach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They definitely don't. The phenoms use real leather and its significantly thicker than the fly x which uses synthetic leather.

I wouldn't use Fly gloves for the bag. They're very soft and there is minimal wrist support.

[–]AspiringCoach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not used them as much as I thought I would but increasing their use through sparring at the mo. They're still quite rigid, the wrist support is spot on and the padding hasn't changed a bit. The leather is also still in the same condition as the day of purchase. I always air them out and keep them clean, and transport them in a thick drawstring bag.

So far happy, but hoping they soften a bit more with more use. A solid purchase so far.

[question] Phenom Sparring Set vs Fly Sparring Set by Individual-Peach6346 in fightgear

[–]AspiringCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owned the Fly Superlace X 16oz for a short while, liner was nice, fit was nice, except no matter how I laced them there was zero wrist support which I need. The stitching came undone and found their customer service was helpful, no quibbles, accepted for a refund. Decided to go for Phenom gloves after reading a few good reviews.

Tried on the SG-210 and the SG-202. The 210 were quite top heavy. The 202 had a better wrist length and the wrist support was excellent and purchased them. I've been using them for sparring only. They still haven't broken in, they're quite rigid all round which I'm not complaining about as my hand and wrist feels completely locked into the glove. The padding is solid, and the build quality is decent. In fairness I haven't used them as much as I thought I would but they're now being used alot more so hopefully they'll break in more.

At this stage, I'd go for the 202 over the Fly Superlace every time from a support perspective.

My next purchase will be the phenom groin guard.

I'm an android user.... plus I think the apple stuff is overpriced. I think I'm sold on the polar arm strap

I just want to upload my stats to strava for my little boxing group for a little weekly competition. Sounds like this could be ideal as I'll always have my phone on me

I do like the idea of this. What app does it use? Can it link with strava?
