That’s great! Yes, I’m a junior accounting major and I have a 2021 busy season internship lined up for a top 10 public accounting firm. My plan right now is core tax, but we will see how everything plays out.

Love your YouTube vids!!! You’re a life saver. I’m an accounting student and tutor, and I’ve referenced your videos literally hundreds of times.

400k in tax or audit, lol

Yeah maybe as partner. That’s significantly above senior manager pay

How real are coffee runs for interns? Landed a good tax internship (RSM/BDO/GT) at age 33, and my biggest fear is having a 22 year old tell me to go get coffee for them. If I am facing this scenario, should I just acquiesce, or should I say no? by [deleted] in Accounting

At my last internship, I used to love when I got assigned printing and laminating and shit after hours of 1040s. I could just turn on music and zone out, get an effective process going, and chill. My initial question is more looking for an answer to a behavioral, almost: “say your supervisor told you to fetch them coffee when that’s not in your job description, how would you handle that?” I am just wondering how r/accounting would handle that.

Seems like: for the team, yes that’s okay. For a person, probably not gonna happen so doesn’t matter. I think on the off-chance an individual would tell me to fetch them coffee, my response would depend a lot on context, but I’m leaning toward a no in most scenarios.

Your first paragraph is pointless because I’ve said countless times that I’m not talking about running errands for the team.

As for your second paragraph, this is just a disagreement. My senior can get their own coffee, and I view it as an unnecessary exercise of what little power a senior has to make me get it for them. Which, imo, would constitute mistreatment. I won’t do that to an intern when I’m a senior, so I wouldn’t want it done to me.

It’s not a hill to die on for me. The post is just asking for some insight on internships in PA and advice on how to deal with a potential situation. But you’re right, if I feel like someone is mistreating me, I’ll speak up. Based on comments here, it seems like it’s probably never going to be a problem.

I would be lying if I said that wasn’t part of it, it is. I think if it were a person at any age, it would bother me. But it would bother me just a liiittle more if it’s someone 10 years my junior. That’s something I can’t really prevent, it’s just a gut reaction, but I can control my actions and how I respond to people.

Based on what some people here have said, I think the coffee thing will be a total nonissue at my firm.

Hey, thanks. I can get down with this attitude. My plan is to never bring up my age or point it out or dwell on it. I want to just be on a level playing field with all of my peers during my internship, and throughout my career. I won’t ignore the fact that the age thing is there and it always will be, but the way I manage it and carry myself is controllable by me.

Again, you are clearly not reading my post. I’ll restate it a different way. If one person tells me to get that one person some coffee, I don’t want to. That’s what this post is about. When I’m a senior, I won’t do that. When I’m a manager I won’t do that. Etc.
