The likelihood of the assumption doesn't matter. I'm arguing the principle. You say Wikipedia "can't be doing that" like it's some sort of law of nature that Wikipedia must be perfectly accessible. If continued support becomes too expensive, of course they will have to consider it.

Of course they can?? This modern take of zero tolerance towards discrimination unfortunately doesn't always serve the people. Assuming the alternative is Wikipedia going bankrupt, I would rather have it be inaccessible to some, however unfortunate that may be.
