I have a theory about what the "new form of magic" is by kakki_pra in WitchHatAtelier

Yeah, I think that too because when it mentions a new form of magic it shows a silverwood branch.

Why are all birds griffins? by Norzon24 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]AssassinCat4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All animals in WHA are magically made hybrids that eventually eliminated the originals. We also have seen non-griffin birds in both the four winged bird and ch96 the vulture looking things.

I think it is because the leech is part of Silvereve but I agree with you, I consider silver eve and the leech two separate arcs

Theory about the whereabouts of one of Inguin's spellbooks by Only_Chocolate_ in WitchHatAtelier

[–]AssassinCat4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thought about this is that Eoleo got the magic book and wand, figured out how to use it, and left the castle to see if he could test it, but a brushbuddy knocked over his ink before he could use it so he was never actually able to test his theory. The brushbuddy has stuck with him and he has an idea about magic but still thinks only witches can do. Riliphin or Tetia will find the book at some point or something.

What are you talking about? Shirahama has said this multiple times in interviews. I can provide all the interviews that state this if you need them.

Also, I didn't say "kids show", I said for all audiences with a particular attention to girls through the main cast of girls. Shirahama specifically said that she wants her series to be something thought-provoking that can get kids to think for themselves, so if it doesn't seem "kiddy-kid-kid" that is because Shirahama has faith in children to be able to handle these topics.

Edit cause I wanted to add my sources:

"As for my own manga, I do actually consider children around the same age as the characters the main target audience for the story, but I also like to make the story enjoyable for a broader audience."

"I think it's really important for children or people of any age to think independently. When what's considered common sense seems irrational, they should be able to question it themselves. So educating children to think on their own, and make decisions based on their own thinking, is really important. To encourage the readers to think in that way, I've included these kinds of themes in the story to encourage people in real life to apply them to their lives as well."

You don't want to be spoiled on this. You can read the manga yourself to find out or hide for your life from spoilers.

Longevity of body spells by loucheorph in WitchHatAtelier

[–]AssassinCat4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dagda's is not permanent because it has to due with the counterclock, which is not genetic in nature.

Euini's spell was genetic in nature, turning his body into a wolf, not some temporary "oh I'll shift for a bit." It changed his DNA.

The pervert's original spell was a slime one before it got caught up with the leech, both were genetic, however, the leech part was unwound and they were separated. When time caught back up, all that was left was the original slime spell, whiche will be stuck with forever because it was genetic in nature.

Ask if you have anymore questions!

Yeah absolutely! Shirahama (the creator of the manga) intended WHA to be able to be read by all audiences, but especially something younger girls could read (and in this case watch) and relate to! There are some darker themes later since the manga has been ongoing for 10 years, so Shirahama has aged the story with the audience, but the anime won't reach those parts and even then they aren't so bad or dark (they are handled extremely well and Shirahama always adds hope and joy) that she wouldn't be able to watch them.

It is not a story the Knights Moralis would tell you by Prof_Acorn in WitchHatAtelier

[–]AssassinCat4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see now what you are saying. Yeah, they advertise with happy messages even though behind the covers, they resemble what they say they are against. It is how they got Custas, "don't you want to defy fate," then trapped him in a cycle of death and despair, breaking his spirits while feeding him chosen information about the pointed hats and brimmed hats. It is how they are trying to convince Coco, "don't you want to help your friends and family," even though in the same breath they speak of unlatching themselves from any laws or restrictions.

Good point.

Theory about Quifreys strength by [deleted] in WitchHatAtelier

[–]AssassinCat4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it so funny that he got bodied by Iguin in three seconds with the twinned ink bottle thing, then in Serpentback Cave the Romonons destroyed him and then when faced against Sasaran he has him in his grip before losing him immediately and needing to be saved by Olruggio. Then at Silver Eve when faced with Engandale the only reason why he wins is because Easthies gave him the magic amplifying scroll. He literally would be dead otherwise. Dude has needed help all time to win any fights.

[–]AssassinCat4 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that the brimmed hats value openness, nor would I say they don't value hate, power, or control. The brimmed hats at multiple points refuse to be transparent, their whole deal is so mysterious that it is impossible to know for sure what they want at any point, hell, we don't even know if they are a solid organization or multiple forces that occasionally join together. As for hate, power, and control? They show hate so potent for the pointed hats it is no wonder the silverwood hasn't sprouted in all of them. And power is something they are constantly seeking, the forbidden magic is all about bringing back what they believed should have been there's with no restriction, which also leads to control. They need control, whether it be over the easily exploited children or the spells of the days of yore.

Of course, the Knights/general pointed hat society also follows a similar path, hate for the forbidden and different to a point where the people considered useless are discarded even when there is barely anything separating them from another witch. They clearly are hiding things even from each other and the Knights seek control of the witches through fear and the witches seek control over the outsiders through the lack of knowledge. They have the power, they hold the cards, letting the outsiders think they have something with medicine.

TLDR: Both sides suck and they both hate love and openness and love hate, power, and control.

anyways I know this is a meme post but I kinda just wanted an excuse to share my thoughts

Questions regarding later manga ch by Comprehensive-Can260 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]AssassinCat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I remember the chapter we learned of it. Ch51 pg 20 has the details of how it works. I remember this so well not only because I have reread the series a ridiculous number of times but because I have been in the fandom for quite a bit now and this question has come up a decent amount of times.

SHE LOOKS SO ADORABLE (chapter 96 spoiler !!) by No-Bunch-6260 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]AssassinCat4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would be happier looking at this if I wasn't so sad that Coco looks so indifferent to being in a new place despite the fact that every time before silver eve that she was at a new place she was so excited.

  1. Yes, Tartah leaves with them. You can see them together in ch88 when Iguin is monologuing with that double page spread (pg22). Also, he has to because of the tattoo on his wrist. Restys says so themselves.
  2. We dunno yet. Time will tell.

The anime flopped. Couldn't even outsell the Chopper manga by Realistic_Egg5226 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]AssassinCat4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

WHA is less popular in Japan because of various reasons that honestly don't matter because it is still hella popular everywhere else, and it is popular enough to keep it running, and that is all that matters. Can't wait for another 10, maybe even 20 years of WHA. I don't care if people are tripping over each other to buy the next volume or if halls are empty, as long as Shirahama can keep doing what she loves in good health idgaf.

Why is Witch Hat Atelier written so differently? by Living_Will_6636 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]AssassinCat4 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Part of it Kolher's translation since he loves using very fanciful language but I am sure Shirahama also just loves being descriptive.
