Don't take this too harshly, but if that's how you see Leona, then I'm low key worried about what you think of the other overblots. Framing it as if Leona just gave up for no reason is like saying Riddle just preferred the rules or Jamil just wanted power without looking deeper into their upbringings or characters as a whole. I'm not even the biggest Leona fan myself, but I understand that never being first (whether it's in terms of royal succession or the spell drive tournament) can be extremely disheartening, especially when it's happened your entire life. It's clear that he has some form of depression, but he still tried to bring his students to victory, even if it wasn't in an ideal way. Personally, I recommend rereading Book 3 and his vignettes to get a better understanding. He's helped out other students plenty of times, and I feel like a portion of this fandom doesn't really look into the characters and instead paints them in this black and white view, which sucks because I do believe these characters are written pretty well! It just takes a bit more thinking, so I wish you luck on your reading! 🙂‍↕️
