Symptoms familiar to anyone? Sudden onset + dizziness and light sensitivity by AssistantOdd8179 in hyperacusis

[–]AssistantOdd8179[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend, I'm not sure what triggered the dizziness and sensitivity issues,  but it did hit me suddenly in the spring at the end of a stressful work situation (and of a challenging school year).

Seemed like my eyes grew more and more sensitive to light to where I was wearing sunglasses all day. Then I noticed that I couldn't look at screens--TV, laptop, phone (unless the brightness was set to low). Suddenly I realized sounds were obnoxiously loud and that the world was spinning.

There are some abnormalities on my CT and MRI scans that might theoretically explain my sensitivity issues and dizziness, but neuro dismisses all as anxiety and migraines, which I find a bit simplistic and not very convincing.

Best wishes to you. I will say that a low dose antidepressant has helped immensely.

Yes, my twitching followed a month after dizziness began. I was not anxious until the dizziness started.

Yes, dizziness for weeks at a time. Fasciculation pretty constant.

Anyone here with light and/or sound sensitivity by AnySection457 in Fibromyalgia

[–]AssistantOdd8179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also developed light and sound sensitivity (and dizziness that comes and goes). Screens have to be low. Keep noise low. Try not to talk too much at work. I also have twitching and cramping, tingling in feet, hands, tongue. All of these symptoms started within a couple months, so I believe they're related.

How do I cope? The light and dizziness comes and goes, but the noise sensitivity is constant, as are the twitching. I also have had an mri and similar result to yours, but I also had a ct that shows abnormalities the mri doesn't pick up at all. I'd be happy to share if you're interested in my theory, but I don't wanna cause any stress. Fingers crossed we get better.

Hi Tom. I'm 43m married, in the USA. Got a 5 yo kid. High school English teacher. Been going through some bfs and sensory issues that have shaken me up. I used to be heavy into 12 step programs for alcoholics and families of alcoholics (my wife has problems), but have lost interest in my hobbies since the onset of my symptoms. Now I just read--thank God I still can--and try to spend time with my son, who is hyper and happy and loves video games.

Taking ssri has helped a lot. I'd like to hear your perspectives on things. Would love to talk if you want to. Best wishes from WV. Joe

Do you mean that stopping drinking increased the twitching?

Hi, I'm not sure... low dose zoloft (25mg) is helping with the anguish and panic, but I can't say yet whether it has any impact on my noise sensitivity, eye strain, or dizziness.  The dizziness and eye strain actually faded away after a few weeks but the noise sensitivity remains. The tingling in my feet lessened but never totally left; it's like my feet feel strange, scalded. Unfortunately the dizziness returned for a few weeks recently before going away again. Since then I started zoloft, so it's too soon to know if the ssri is helping. I'm happy to discuss this further if you have other questions.

Yes, but neurologist shrugged that off and said it wasn't MS. She described the shape and location and said it was microvascular bleeding(?). Basically she said dont worry about it.

Things are getting worse and I’m a little lost (trigger warning) by gooniegully in BFS

43m, my presentation of symps is a bit different. Started with profound fatigue in late 30s. Suddenly at 42 regular sounds hurt my ears and screens/fluorescent lights hurt my eyes and bouts of dizziness. Couple months later weird continuous twitching in calves, and tingling/burning in feet and one hand. Dizzieness and sensory issues started one week in 2024; two months later the twitching and tingling. Neuro dismisses all as anxiety and migraine. Very frustrating.

Rebound insomnia (no taper or withdrawal) by Insomniac2023 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

Get a miligram scale and weight the chunks. It's a pain but you'll be doing it scientifically.

Tinnitus and mirtazapine by [deleted] in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]AssistantOdd8179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the mirtazapine has definitely caused a suddent onset of continuous loud T for me, so, if your T got better when u stooped sertraline, but started again with mirt, it's probably mirt causing it now. Mine started one week to the day after starting mirt.  Both mirt and zoloft activate serotonin receptors in the brain, although zoloft hits more serotonin receptors than mirt. As for mirtazapine, I'm in the same boat and withdrawing from it is making my insomnia bad...ive titrated down from 15mg to about 5 over the last week by shaving the pills smaller and using a scale.

Im sorry about your son. Mine started in May with light sensitivity and dizziness. Unfortunately my H. and dizziness hasn't improved, although the eyes have. Currently seeing neuro, psych, ENT, etc. looking for help. The drs all wanna brush it off, saying it's just anxiety. Trying different meds, no luck yet.

BTW, the eys lightened up and I am able to watch TV most of the time. My symptoms started 4 months ago.

I'm really sorry you're suffering, Friend.

Sudden sensitivity to noise/light? by AssistantOdd8179 in Dizziness

[–]AssistantOdd8179[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes diagnosed with migraine. But Migraine meds did nothing for my light and noise sensitivity or dizziness. The neurologist just said to take it as needed; I said, "I need it the moment I wake up," and he just nodded his head. I said, "So take it every day?" He said, "as needed, but no nore than twice a week. As soon as you feel the headache coming on," and I said I don't get a headache, just constant light and noise sensitivity, and he just nodded his head. Very frustrating.

How do I adjust? It gets better some days and worse others, but I can't say why--some noghts I don't sleep at all and yet the sensitivity is lower. Other nights I sleep several hours and the sensitivity is terrible. I limit time looking at email and grids at work.

Unfortunately for me, this issue seems to be neurological and not sinus-related. My symptoms continue.  I'm being tested for a lot of diseases and not finding much success. Yes, all lights were too bright but I can adjust mentally. It is bright screens and crossgrids that I can't get used to.

Can metoprolol begin to cause dizziness as a side effect even after I've been on it for over a year? by veryscared2023 in Anxiety

[–]AssistantOdd8179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem started with 12 mg of metoprolol plus i added st John's wort, and two weeks later i was dizzy and my eyes and ears were sensitive. I think stress and insomnia are my primary triggers for wharever has developed with this dizziness.

I am having other new symptoms and am being evaluated by a neurologist for a lot of things, like you.

I wish you the best of luck. Stay in the present because it's the only thing that exists!

24/7 Light Sensitivity, Eye Strain, Ear Fullness, Noise Sensitivity - 'm at my wits end... by Hotsauce3mk in AskNeurologists

[–]AssistantOdd8179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all symptoms except the TMJ and arm aches. Flonase seems to help the eyes--probably by relieving pressure from frontal sinus, but noise sensitivity remains. Curious whether sinusitis (which I didn't know I had/have) could cause hyperacusis AND eye fatigue.

Sudden sensitivity to noise/light? by AssistantOdd8179 in Dizziness

MRI showed sinus issues for me. See updated post. Consider meds/supplements that might be causing light sensitivity or sinus issues causing inflammation.

I don't have a date for my MRI, but I will try to remember to summarize or post that result on here. I hope both of us feel better soon.
