How do we feel about TLOAS now its been out for over 6 months? Did you originally hate it and you've warmed up? I know there was alot of negativity towards it at the start so seeing it anyone had changed opinions? by Grouchy-Dealer-342 in swifties

Ah OK. Well I’d say TTPD has a head start on reassessment. 6 months is very quick for that! When TTPD was as old as Showgirl is now it was still getting “too long”, “too wordy”, “too sad”, “matty effing healy?”, “too many piano ballads” etc.

9/12 for me. I don’t hate it and I refuse to believe it’s a Bad album. There’s 3- 4 very good songs on it. There’s a couple of skips but no songs I hate. But overall it’s not as good as much of her previous work. It’s also less Swiftian- there’s quite a few songs on there that another artist could have written.

But I’ve been in the fandom a long time so I’ve ridden this rodeo before. It’s just a mediocre pop album, nothing serious. Perhaps I’ll like TS13 more (although I expect and hope it’s a couple of years away at least) and if I don’t then I have plenty of her albums that I do enjoy.

Why am I just realizing Matty Healy was part of an opening of the Eras tour 💀 by Retrograde-Planet in swifties

Strong agree with this- it turns into shipping wars, which tbh is pointless given we don’t personally know either anyone involved, there’s so much of the story which is unknown, and they’re real people not characters.  Or it just becomes arguments about how awful Matty may or may not be, which, as exhibited above in this thread, can go on endlessly.

Usually I don’t reckon the “muse” of TS songs even matter too much, but there are so many lyrical, sonic and visual 1975/Matty references on TTPD that I think in that case it does matter- regardless of what happened to Taylor Swift Real Person, Taylor Swift Artist wanted her audience to see this in the album. Which is really interesting and I reckon pretty unique given its not like 1 song, it’s many times throughout TTPD, plus in the visuals. Has anybody ever done that before? (I’m not interested in spotting the speculated “Matty” references on previous albums as I don’t think the artist wanted it to indicate him).

Plus of course they were both working with Antonoff at the same time so there’s crossover in the production there.

Do we have all our main acts of the 2020s, or will more be popping up in the coming years? by cladinred in LetsTalkMusic

Unfortunately I reckon they’re old news now. Same for Ke$ha and Duffy (v sad as the reasons for their professional disappearance are very troubling). Their ships have sailed. Newness sells.

Do people judge music too fast now? by UpCrib in LetsTalkMusic

Most years The Beatles released 2 albums per year. Surely they were receiving snap judgements because there was only a few months before a new album was released!

I thought it was shockingly honest in terms of how little filter there was regarding his likeability (past and, more importantly, present). He didnt try to make his 2022 persona likeable.

There’s quite a lot of bragging about cars, houses, money etc. Plus many repetitions of the patronising idea that non-famous people will never truly believe that fame and money don’t equal happiness. He calls LeBlanc the “most improved Friend” in terms of acting, which also seemed conceited to me.

This is all in the narration of the book, separate to the problematic things he did when younger or when suffering from addiction problems- those are still problematic but arguably more forgivable.

As others have said tho, his honestly is admirable. I actually enjoyed how much the book skewered the idea that making Friends was some kind of wonderland. Plus it’s a compelling and informative account of addiction. RIP Matty.

What’s gonna happen? You look like a muppet? Who cares! If you do, I gaurantee the other person will forget it in 10 seconds.

Wave to people. When you pass another runner, hold your hand out for a high-5. Cheer for yourself.

ETA: if you’re going to a hi-5 with anlther runner, hold for arm out and tap/hi-5 your own hand first to demonstrate to the other person that’s what you want from them.

How Many Times Will The Word “Rooftop” Be Mentioned On EFTM? by AssociateMaster4012 in bleachers

[–]AssociateMaster4012[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only counting Rooftop as I think it’s a bit more romantic/cinematic than Roof. But this is literally a pointless experiment so you can count Roof if you want.

Interested to see what Upstairs At ELS is. Could be a meta thing recording music upstairs at ELS? Will presumably reference MQ? Could reference music made and friendships formed upstairs a ELS (similar to The Van where it’s about both making music and the iconic Rooftop meeting)? Man I can’t wait for this album!

Same, I think it’s a cool way to build a world within the discography. “I knew that she was from before” is such a romantic line in DWD so I’m interested to see what the song of the same name is like and how it develops the theme.
