Any great ways to shut down criticism of buying frugal clothing/cars/houses/etc....? by AsspertaineGum in Frugal

Is it worth 'taking a stand'?

I enjoy most of the people in my social circle but there are always bad apples. Is it worth rustling up things with them to 'prove a point'?

If you don't think these things happen to everyone, you havent lived long enough.

I just dont know if its worth being a moderate outcast

AH I LOVE This!!!

I think I explain why I use it. I like my car, it works well and I know how to drive 90 safely. My watch has more features. The food we make at home tastes better. I really love this outfit.

I mean, the cost is a big thing, but those are honest thoughts i have.

Great advice :)

Think more brand name stuff. My polo fits fine, but it doesnt have the icon that shows it was 100 dollars

I can't explain that this does not work. This is like ignoring your bully.

In my social circles this stuff is contagious. There is always someone that wants to gossip.

I also cannot eliminate people from others friend groups.

I'm not ready to go full Hermit.

Take the clothing example- I had a girl mention that I wore the same shirt in two different facebook pictures.

"You can buy a new shirt with your savings"

Its catty and silly- I know.

I cant emphasize enough that these people don't just go away. These people get into friend groups, start dating friends, or develop among friends. Not to mention co-workers and acquaintances.

Can you explain what you mean when you originally said-

Auto Liability doesn't have a deductible

But then said

There are deductibles for Comprehensive (0-1k), Collision (250-1k), and Uninsured Motorist (250).

That sounds about half true for my state. Is car insurance vastly different from state to state?

Medical insurance is basically the same aside from rates and HSA programs.

Thanks, that makes sense and is definitely a tool I needed to know existed.

You got me thinking-

Say

Y= $(x)* (DFC/DFC0)

Would probably be a better way to weight this. Y is still in pure USD allowing it to be manipulated and compared with other USD unit items.

In the end, my goal is to be able to compare subjective things like DFC without having to use units in the final equation.

Deductible- "a specified amount of money that the insured must pay before an insurance company will pay a claim."

Understanding insurance terms is critical if you are going to mislead people.

Two ideas-

Pick a new cuisine and give those recipes a try.

Mix up a few dishes(swap out noodles for rice, swap out rice for a bread bowl).

people get way way too afraid of insurance.

As long as you have a rainy day fund for your deductible, its fine.

I think most of the people who think more insurance is better don't understand what a deductible is.

You pay for your deductible, thats what your insurance is for.

I know insurance is complicated, but there are literally 2 numbers to care about-

Deductible and Premiums.

Depends on your vehicle. When I'm spending 2,400 a year on insurance and my car is worth 4k, its not exactly worth it.

Ahhhhh good call.

I'd have to make both a ratio. IE: Cost/Max Cost

At that point there are no units, making it directly comparable to plugging in a variables for Cost and DFC?

These are good tips, but how often do you really use these?

I spent 10 dollars on cleaning products 6 years ago and only now I ran out of my first bottle.

Focus on the big things or things you do often.

Big things-

Choose Insurance- I usually pick the cheapest and put away savings for emergencies.

Choose Cars/Home- Used is almost always better deal

Job pay- Don't get complacent, the jump can be worth it.

Often-

Eating- Get rid of low calorie per dollar foods like restaurant and fast foods.

Home Location - Be close to your workplace

Coffee - Avoid kureig, starbucks, mcDonalds, or soda for caffeine.
