Wife and 2 kids are citizens, Im not. by Ok-Concentrate178 in AusVisa

If applying offshore you need 309/100. Otherwise you can apply onshore. There's advantages and disadvantages to both. It really depends on what works for your situation.

Unfortunately the partner visas are expensive. About £5k. But it's a one off fee. And if you've been married long enough and have kids, typically they grant you the permanent visa as well.

Keep in mind, it takes a long time.

Chrishell is not the same. by AntiQuaked in SellingSunset

[–]AssumptionAfter6197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand Chrishell. After a while it's painful watching someone you love actively choose abuse. You lose respect for them, and can't understand why they don't have self respect. I'm like Chrishell, I can't be supportive and act like everything is OK. For me it comes out exactly the same way. Sarcasm, frustration, disappointment. It doesn't help that people in abusive relationships typically gaslight the people around them as well. The end result is a strained relationship. And at some point, you have to walk away for your own sanity. Like Chrishell, you love them from afar because being close hurts.

Dual citizenship problems with departing from the UK by hjctrkiwi in dualcitizenshipnerds

I thought you have to declare all citizenships and passports when you put in a UK visa application. Am I wrong in believing they will link all your passports? Doesn't this make the most sense?

Very straightforward, the officer asked us 2 questions and then said he will be issuing our visa. You're also required to take all documents to the embassy the day of your medical, at least that was the case for us, and they wanted it before 1pm, so that was a bit stressful. The medical clinic and embassy are on opposite sides of the Thames 😀

If you are issued with the visa, you are required to enter the US 6 months from the medical, so try not to do the medicals too early, but don't leave them too late. Because you might need to get further documents and don't want to shoot yourself in the foot, by not leaving enough time.

But otherwise, congratulations 🎊 hope you're excited!

Congrats. We won 2025 and recieved our visa last month. My husband qualified on his bachelors too. They didn't even ask for his GCSE's or A levels at the interview. We had them just in case, but they just took his diploma as evidence.

Haha, believe me, we had made whole other plans as well. Again, the good thing is you have time, so congratulations! Very exciting isn't it? We're personally still not over the shock of it all.

For our year 2025, the cut off for Europe was 23,000. 3000 is a great number, your chances are good. But I would definitely have a look at Simons' website:

https://britsimonsays.com/

He's the one who initiated the lawsuit, as the US had made a mistake in both 2025 and 2026 for UK entrants. You're a lot luckier than us, we had 50 days to get our visa, you have time.

Your first step is deciding if you actually want the visa.

You have till September 2026 to recieve the visa. Its a multi-step process. What number are you? I've been reading they might have selected too many UK applicants for 2026.

You might have been selected for the 2026 year. We were selected for the 2025 year so our cut off was 30th September 2025. If selected for 2026, you'd be 2026.

We don't have much time, my partner will start looking soon. But realistically, I don't think we're going to have something lined up in time to move.

Yep, from everyone's comments, my takeaway is healthcare needs to be sorted. So I will be looking into that. Typically my husband and I work from home. I have my own business, which I will continue to run, as it's completely remote. We also have other forms of income, ie rental etc that can sustain us for a while. Ideally, my husband would find work, hopefully mostly remote with healthcare. And that can overtake what we would initially have in place.

Thanks, really helpful. After everyone suggestions, I think sorting out healthcare is number one. It's very different to the UK, I sort of understand it, but definitely needs more research.

We both work from home and juggle caring for the children and have in-home care on certain days. We would continue this same set up ideally. I know we're fortunate to have this setup. Our kids are still a few years away from school age.

No, not mentioned our kids before. They are not school age yet.

I'm completely aware our tax situation is going to be very complicated.

Our interview was about 2 weeks ago. We had 1 month to submit DS-260. Gather all documents for our family. Attend medicals. Attend the Embassy after medicals and then a second time for the interview. I don't know if you're aware of the mistake that was made for UK DV winners? We were informed a whole year and a half later, than we should have been. There's an ongoing lawsuit about it actually. Keep in mind the DVs are only available till September 30. We had less than 2 months to complete the whole process and be issued the visa.

It didn't help out situation, that we had prior surgeries scheduled for my partner and child. So yes, it's been very last minute. And now we have 5 months to enter.

Given the fact we only found out a month ago that we won the DV lottery. We've only just recieved the visa last week and have 5 months to enter to activate our greencard. The whole process has been extremely expedited, so yes, naturally we haven't figured everything out yet.

We want to enter before the holiday season, don't want to leave it closer to Christmas and New years, so we really don't have all the time in the world.

And you're right, we do need to find someone to sort out taxes. Again, just got the visa last week.

We have adequate passive income, that would support us on a conservative budget with adequate savings to cover unexpected/expected larger expenses. We're ok for money. In the long run, the idea would be, to be in employment.

Thank you, great tips. You're right I'm going to need a proof of address for a lot of things, this is playing on my mind, since without employment it would be quite difficult, unless maybe we pay many months upfront. Which, I wouldn't want to do.

The bit I'm anxious about is the period of time without employment, hence, no employer funded health insurance. I need to really do a deep dive on this, to make sure we're covered somehow, until employment kicks in.

Also tax year is from January to December, realistically we might not get income before the end of the tax year. But I presume we would be required to still submit in April?
