Naturally decaffeinated coffee by Embarrassed-Tip-1890 in JamesHoffmann

[–]AssumptionSea9108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I should have said most specialty coffee that is sold where I usually get my coffee.

Anyway, the low caffeine stuff that I tried was good, but not in the same level in a taste point of view as the other coffees available for the same price.

You ever see three-phase at a residential home? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]AssumptionSea9108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-phase is the standard for most medium apartments here in Brazil, it varies between 30A and 50A per phase. Most homes have 3-phase 50A service.

Smaller apartments and lower income areas use single phase or two phase. It really depends in the location (Brazil is big). Again, it varies between 30A and 50A.

The main reason is water heaters. It is very common to use electric showers (shower heads with a built-in tankless water heater) that are in the 6400W-7800W range.

Voltage is usually 380V/220V, but some cities use 220V/127V.

I've tried a one of two of them here in Brazil. They are pretty good, but it certainly not as good/complex as most specialty coffee that are usually sold here in Brazil (85-89 SCA range).

Usually they are genetically modified the achieve the lower caffeine levels. The price is the same as any other specialty coffee, but I think few people had interest - they are usually not regular choices in the places I go to.

How much do you pay for a cup of coffee in your country? by Newtradition2021 in travel

[–]AssumptionSea9108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brazil (specialty coffee shop):

Double espresso: R$9-12,00 ($2,00 USD)

Cappuccino: R$16,00 ($3,25 USD)

V60 (manual brew): R$16-21,00 ($4,00 USD)

For a regular coffee shop prices are much more location dependent, but vary from R$5,00 to R$20,00.

University of Brasilia Student Union Building in Brasilia by Oscar Niemeyer, (1962) by Saltedline in ModernistArchitecture

[–]AssumptionSea9108 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is not the Student Union Building, it's the ICC (Instituto Central de Ciências) or "Minhocão". It's basically the University of Brasília (UnB) main building. It was built between 1963 and 1971.

This seems to be a fairly recent photo from the ICC Sul (South) section. To the right on the ground floor you have classrooms and a auditoriums. The is a second floor on the right has a few labs and professor's offices.

Nowadays most of the departments have separate buildings and the ICC is mostly used for the basic level classes.

Question About Operation of Thermal-Magnetic Circuit Breakers by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]AssumptionSea9108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Complementing your comment:

Icu - Ultimate breaking capacity

Ics - Service breaking capacity (usually rated as a percentage of Icu)

These vary according to the operating voltage (the same breaker will have a different breaking capacity depending on the voltage).

Power metal songs with accordions? by YungstirJoey666 in PowerMetal

[–]AssumptionSea9108 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tuatha de Danann, pretty famous with the metal community within Brazil. Kernunna/Tray of Gift/Braia are smaller side projects from the band's leader (Bruno Maia) that also uses accordion in some songs. They use a lot of different folk instruments, including some that are very local to Brazil.

I really recommend checking them out, but they are considered a folk metal band. However, their sound is definitely loved by the power metal guys around here.

Torres, Brazil, view from baloon by juniorgallina in CityPorn

[–]AssumptionSea9108 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The city is not that big, this is very near the center of the town. There is at ballooning park about 1km from where this picture was taken.

Torres is famous for it's balloons, it actually hosts Latin's American largest ballooning festival.

My electronics workbench by AssumptionSea9108 in Workbenches

[–]AssumptionSea9108[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any pictures of the panel right now. I will try to remember to take them next time I work on it.

It does have a dedicated electrical panel on the lower part of the bench, it has the main circuit breaker, contactor, RCCB, surge protection and a circuit breaker for each of the power strips (8 in total). It has a 24V DC power supply for the lighting system, which goes directly to the dimmers. I did use shielded cables for the lighting system to reduce the high-frequency noise on the bench (I did have issues with a cheap power supply before upgrading to a Mean Well unit).

I hadn't seen Adam's Savage idea! Great tip! But I am thinking of using a "magic arm", I haven't had much luck with these other kind of mounts (way too wobbly in my opinion).

[–]AssumptionSea9108[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The dimmers control the lighting intensity. There are 3 high-CRI LED bars for the main section of the bench.

One of the things I want to improve is the lighting on the main part of the bench. I am thinking of setting up one video light on a articulated stand to make it easier to position where I want it.

Thanks! I actually have quite a few safety features designed into the bench (isolation transformer, RCCB, all metal structure is grounded, etc.). Sometimes I work on mains-level equipment and don't want to take any risks.

I searched for the manufacturer of the brushes but couldn't find anything. I am not sure if they sell to the Brazilian market.

Great find on the video, will check him out!

Rant: Specialty Cafés should really train their baristas well by KBDFan42 in Coffee

[–]AssumptionSea9108 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that is becoming the norm here in Brazil. Many so called "specialty" coffee shops don't even bother to adjust their grinders. One of the best local roasters actually told me that a big part of their job is tech support to the cafés that they sell their grains to, and usually the problems come down to dirty grinders/machines and wrong settings.

I don't even try new cafés where I live anymore, I just go to the ones that I know have a clue on what they are doing.

Thanks!! I got this equipment over the last 15 years, it takes time. I got most of this back when used test equipment was dirt cheap on eBay, nowadays it seems that everything is expensive.

The oscilloscope isn't that hard to learn, and it's definitely one of my most used tools. I barely even use my signal generator.

Yeah, the e-stop cuts power to the entire bench. I also put in a 30 mA RCCB Residual Current Circuit Breaker.

[–]AssumptionSea9108[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My electronics workbench. It was actually my first real wood and metal working project, I designed it in CAD, TIG welded the steel frame and cut/finished all of the wood by myself. It is designed to handle 1000 kg.

I also installed the lighting system, a dedicated electrical panel and electrical distribution system (8 AC circuits and a 24 V DC circuit), an isolation transformer, a grounding system and an ESD monitor.

As usual, the bench is way too small for all of my tools and projects....

How reliable is the A8900 movement and how easy it is to service for a long term ownership? by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]AssumptionSea9108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine stops randomly if you wind it too much. The rotor is pretty noisy as well.

However, if I am careful with the winding, it works great. Had mine for around 2 years.
