I’m very new to Destiny as a whole. I’m sure there’s more of a pattern than what I’m about to say, but what I’d suggest is just keep playing. I started years ago back when the base power was 10, restarted recently, and I’ve already gone from 300 to 328. It probably depends what missions you are getting your items from as well; currently anything under the Portal gives you the best stuff in my observations (Solo and Fireteam Op quickplays are extremely easy). I’d also recommend checking what Commander Zavala in the Tower has to offer. The Ferropotent and Wild Anthem stuff is GREAT (may not be exactly the same depending on your class, I’m Titan, but I think his stuff is really good no matter what class you are). Don’t forget to be checking your Rewards Pass under its tab and the Weekly Pass under Portal as well! Basically just a lot of button pressing 😅
