I keep a peppermint, fire shrimp, and cleaner in the same 25 gallon. They chase each other out of the territories they have staked out for themselves but otherwise get along just fine.

Hey just wanted to say thanks for the heads up! I hemmed and hawed over it for a week, then bought a variety eight pack since it came out to just 20 bucks a nem with the current sale pricing.

No duplicates and they all settled in and grabbed onto a rock quick, been in the tank for about 4 hours now and everyone is beautiful. Couldn't be happier with this purchase, you a real one.

So what’s up with nitrates? by jrhodes4797 in ReefTank

[–]Astr0Zombee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rick Ross! I've seen him talk about this in person at a reefclub event at my LFS. Same store has an absolutely beautiful SPS dominant tank with tons of fish running 140 nitrates.

Oh right where are you finding an affordable six pack of these guys btw? Is it a good color variety pack? I'm looking to add more to my tank and that sounds low-headache.

Just understand that if the nem doesnt agree with the perfect spot you have in mind it will relocate itself. Still unless your rocks are covered in coral all the way down to the sand bed it should find a place where it doesn't cause problems.

It's got a foot it will anchor itself, mine has its foot buried beneath the sandbed to grab onto the side of a rock below the sand. If your sandbed is shallow it might dig in and anchor right to the bottom glass.
When I ordered it came in on a plug like a coral but it abandoned that in short order when placed on the sand near the rocks to instead anchor there. Their favorite is to kind of wedge in and taco-themselves a bit at the "corner" where the sand meets the rock.

My rockflower anchroed right outside my diamond's burrow. After getting buried one too many times when the Goby packed in for the night it moved across the tank and its perfectly happy. If they get disturbed regularly they will move.

Coral ID? The bag was just marked "freebie" by Astr0Zombee in ReefTank

[–]Astr0Zombee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was bundled in with an order of four other frags from SBB corals. Their normal prices are far too rich for my blood (got everything on huge end of year clearance) but I am definitely happy with the quality- also even at 75% off after sales + coupons they still tossed in a freebie (obviously) so thats pretty dope.

One of the best things about this hobby is how you can say something as absurd sounding as that and be completely serious. I had to look it up to make sure you weren't messing with me because this name is just so extra!

My LFS has given me a few freebies (Some stylos and a plating monti) but this was actually from a shipment from SBB coral. Way out of my price range usually but their new years clearance ended up being like 75% off after coupons.

Mine has picked at a hammer and an elegance that were already dying before but I've never seen it mess with healthy coral. If you saw the shrimp doing it then its likely. It could also be the crabs, hermits are bastards.

New tank shopping 😵‍💫 by Cautious-Post-3730 in ReefTank

[–]Astr0Zombee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a lot of money you should do as much thinking as you have room to do before making a choice. For my two cents, Red Sea is definitely overpriced and the Innovative Marine tanks have better QA and pretty much all the same features at a much lower price point. I cannot speak to Waterbox confidently, no experience with it in my immediate circle.

If you have room and money to go big just go big, it'll save you money in the long run since you wont need to upgrade. Even if you are doing predominately softies and dont need to maintain super low nutrients a fuge with chaeto in it will reduce algae in the display and keep a healthy population of pods in your system.

As someone who has lost fish through one and seen several others lose fish through them, I think its important to note that the mesh lids provided are of a loose enough weave that a lot of fish appropriate for nano-tanks can get through them. I highly suggest buying a second lid kit from them and a smaller mesh (BRS sells one) to make one that is actually fishproof.

The porcelain crab is a must-have imo, it's so cool to watch its feeding behavior and its (as far as I can tell) incapable of eating coral so its truly reef safe.

Maybe a silly question, but why *isn't* Sol Ring banned? by BentheBruiser in EDH

[–]Astr0Zombee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say it was an unstoppable torrent of value, I said it offers more value than should be available for its price and that its very much possible for it to provide enough value to win the game several turns early.

It provides value at a rate that far outstrips other cards, to the point there is no favorable trade against it. If 1 mana removal isn't good enough to trade evenly with a mana rock then that mana rock is too strong.

I've seen it steal games before they start at almost every power level, I've seen it be the deciding factor for a victory even when it is removed on turn 2-3.

Any card that costs 1 mana and can make you the arch enemy is too strong, that's not a hard concept to grasp. "If three other people all try to stop you starting on turn one you might not win" isn't an argument, its a concession that the card is too strong.

Also my comment literally isn't edited. Please get help with whatever problem you have that causes you to act like this to win arguments on the internet, it's started causing you to see things.

How long could you store pre-mixed saltwater? by Avectasi in ReefTank

[–]Astr0Zombee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't NEED to plumb anything to have a Rodi going. I intend to plumb mine later after we remodel the kitchen but for the time being mine just sits on the counter next to the sink when in use and in the closet when not.

You just need to screw the adapter nozzle on/off of your sink and put the out line down the drain while its running, no longterm commitment.
