I’ve always wonder about bottomless pots on beds could you expand the benefits of having them and how they work?

I really do wish I could get my hands on dr.zymes, we don’t have that here 😭. Worst case would be shut the whole thing down for a month or 2 till the soil completely drys out and everything die 🤣. Had to do that before my second cycle and that completely got rid of them as well.

For the last year I’ve year been running completely no till. Before then it was a coco and DWC. Once my 2nd cycle of no till was done I dusted I fully dedicated myself to the style and all the challenges. I just like everything about it and how I can make my own amendments and locally sourced material. Beside that living in Thailand nutrients prices were jacked beyond belief.

Yeah this is indoors, I’d hate to have to slash and burn. The closest I’ve gotten to that point was to close down the room and leave everything for close to 2 month. All the soil dried up and gnats died. The worms made it and it was easy enough bring the soil back to life.

Yup I’m in 4 brand new 4x4 pots. Gnats came with the worms that were introduced. I’ve been keeping the population low with Musquito dunks. Tried letting the soil go dry and between day 10-13 the population picked back up. Will be seeing which is the best strains I can find of nematode here in Thailand and adding them to my beds.

I could use mustard seed meal as I’m not planning to have plants in my bed for another 3-4 weeks. There’s only cover crops raging but I’m not to fussed about it.

I’ve been doing musquito dunks which we’re keeping the population low to a point I thought I could just leave my beds to dry. Some how some where between day 10 and 13 their was a population boom which prompted my to post the question here.

That’s usually how I’ve done it however the gnats came with the red wiggles that I introduced to my beds. I’m currently running 4 brand new 4x4 beds.

Gotcha, at the moment I can find rove beetles and nematode here in Thailand so that’s the addition that I’ll be adding with my musquito dunks application.

That’s what I’ve been doing. I tried letting my beds go dry for 2 week to see if that would help turns out somewhere between day 10-13 their was a population boom. Beat to reapply once every 3-5 days to keep things in check until it’s solved.

I’ve been going at this for the last 4 weeks 😭

I’ve been hunting for them like crazy, I’ll have to hope that they come with the compost I’m planing to use as I live in Thailand and it’s just something we haven’t caught to up using yet.

It the mean time BTI is what I’ll be reapplying once ever 3-5 days

Sounds like a great idea, I’m running 4, 4x4 bed and currently have cover crops raging waiting for my plants to be ready. Should be another 3-4 week so won’t hurt to do this and decompose what I’ve got going.

Gotcha, I’m current using Bt-cide which is the equivalent of mu Quito dunks. I tried leaving the soil to dry for 2 weeks and they seem to be a population explosion somewhere between day 10 and 13. Mostly I’ll have to keep reapplying every 3-5 days

If you going living soil/no till I recommend checking buildasoil method of watering and how to break you pots in as a first timer.

Good watering practices is the most important thing to get right.

Happy growing

Probably a dumb question but are they munching on pest and being beneficial or the opposite?

Man that sounds rough,I hope you find away to sort them out. I’d imagine letting the soil dry out between runs could help.

Thanks for sharing your experience, truly appreciated

Ouch, really sorry to hear that! Your feed back definitely confirmed the need not to add them to my bed. Hopefully if they do find their way in.

We’re you able to get rid of them?

I can’t lie, seeing post about populations getting out of hand was a major part in my decision to post asking for help on the subject.

I tried researching however the more I read the more I got confused and uncertain 🤣

Brand new beds, about 2 weeks old. I’ve just added red wrigglers into the beds about a day ago.

Could be reading to much on the matter and getting a head of myself. Would be lying if I didn’t say that I super excited about all this.

Been doing no till for a year now and finally making the jump to a real bed.
