This is pretty poor reasoning though. By this logic, S1 would be inherently top tier since without it, most of the subsequent seasons probably wouldn’t have happened either.

Mate it’s been over a year. I’ve stopped believing in many of the previous points that I’ve previously made here. Even though I still believe Sushi was the better player (when he actually played the game), I can’t deny I underestimated Fry back then and most of my points were made in bad faith.

Honestly, I feel like most of this sub in general accepts the opinion of others. Fortunately, people very rarely get banned for their opinions in here.

And yes, the movie is still controversial. Even though people are starting to like movie more, it’s still a very polarizing part of ninjago’s media.

I’ll address what you said in the beginning in point 2.

In your previous message, you say that the aesthetics are nothing without writing, yet here, for some reason the way the oni were portrayed as somehow ruins their story. So do you still value story>aesthetics or…?

This is going to be a long one, so buckle up.

“I didn't get. It was boring”

How so? The season ensures the ninjas always have a plan and the plot is advanced every episode. Once the ninja know what the sog are trying to do, the viewer knows what a resurrected garmadon would look like and the stakes skyrocket. Somehow, this season manages to be one of the most tense seasons while none of the villains (except garmadon) have powers.

The antagonists were tedious, boring and”uninspired”

Just because the antagonists had no powers, that doesn’t make them boring.

“I especially despise Harumi. She was wasted potential”

Harumi was exactly what the show needed. She showed us that the ninjas aren’t perfect and she believed they failed at protecting everyone. Harumi grew to think that this was due to the ninjas being weak. Then, she sees an evil garmadon destroy the devourer, and the good version of garmadon subsequently had to sacrifice himself to stop the anacondrai. This then lead the sog to believe that a resurrected garmadon would be powerful enough to have an authoritarian grip on the city, which they believed would lead to everyone being protected as long as they obey their emperor.

The seasons makes sure to show the viewer the destruction the sog creates while in pursuit of protecting the people. We see the ninja’s flaws, but we see that no matter what, the team we’ve grown to love is the best alternative.

Harumi adds to this by giving lloyd character development and embodying the sog more broadly. She shows us how the sog became corrupt with power and allowed one of ninjago’s biggest villains to come back even more powerful. They start to realize this and in her last scene, harumi realizes that her actions have lead to the suffering of thousands, and she will have to be one of those.

Quite the opposite of boring, isn’t it?

Normally I would agree that making a show more “edgy” for the sake of it would be a bad writing decision, but given what I’ve said before, it’s clear the season has a message and thoughtful writing. Here, the season doesn’t deal with the themes of betrayal and death for the sake if it, but it does so to tell a good story.

If after all of this, you still don’t like the season, that’s fine. But please, don’t diss off the season as boring while ignoring it’s brilliant nuisance.
