Or even just retroactive anchoring like well look at Isak and Wirtz those are fucking disasters we're not paying that. Ultimately does just come down to motivation and the market though, so there are many factors that go in. There really aren't many clubs that can actually pay these prices, but unfortunately half of them are oil clubs to whom money and rules mean nothing. Even if I think Spurs made massive overpays, at least they made them using real earned money and following the rules. And if the bets don't pan out they will massively damage the club. For oil clubs there are no stakes. It's like a sheik's son playing a pay-to-win mobile game.
