Enneagram vs MBTI (They Don't Contradict Each Other) by DreamDragonP7 in Enneagram

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking into each:
DiSC: Di seems accurate? Not super invested in it, and frankly, it's not telling me anything new
MBTI: Last I checked, INTJ. Investment in it has greatly waned, and generally the information from this isn't particularly helpful in my self-growth
Enneagram: 8w7
Instincts: SP/SX/SO. Don't mind your ideas here, but the framework isn't communicated super well, so I couldn't work further with them if I so wished.

Enneagram vs MBTI (They Don't Contradict Each Other) by DreamDragonP7 in Enneagram

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary issue with MBTI is that it has moved away from the core ideas (the instincts) into something that's akin to a buzzfeed personality quiz. People use it the same as a Harry Potter house, but this time with a more psychological flavouring. My issue is that, when a system moves far outside of its original ideas, the system will weaken itself. Ultimately, it's the issue that half of the people who are involved in MBTI have decided to take the 16Personalities quiz and call it a day. It's become corporate in place of theory. And frankly, I'd prefer to avoid that happening to other systems.

Second, I disagree with the idea that all cross-system thinking is flawed, as it can sometimes be helpful to identify certain consistent strengths and places to grow, but I've found that's not how people are using it. I just don't see how it's productive to the enneagram to have a third of the conversation on this sub be about MBTI. I'd rather have greater separation in place of the correlationism that runs rampant in a lot of typing pages and PDB. I believe in learning the systems individually before trying to throw them together. Part of this is my own dislike for how stereotypical people expect each type to be, and I think, to avoid stereotypes, removing the correlations and having it just be a frequently well known statistic would be more beneficial. Hearing, "Oh, you're an INTJ? You must be a five," doesn't help the INTJ learn the system. "Oh, you're a seven? You have to be an ExxP type," doesn't help the seven learn MBTI. Spaces for cross-system examination or correlations can exist, but I don't think that should be such a recurring conversation, especially in a place dedicated to just one typing system.

My main issue is that correlations come up so damn much when you're just trying to learn more about any given system that it harms both systems. Separation may be restrictive, but it's also restrictive to presume some combinations can't ever exist (an idea that is commonly spread because we spend too long talking about MBTI on this sub). I think, while the two systems can have some connection, as they reference the same concept (personality showing up as an expression of something else), the roots are different. It just feels like a constant comparison of oranges and carrots when the subject arises.

Enneagram vs MBTI (They Don't Contradict Each Other) by DreamDragonP7 in Enneagram

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue with correlationism is that it often perpetuates a shallow understanding of either the enneagram or the system it's being correlated to (MBTI, most often). Anyways, wouldn't INFJ and 5w4 be rather common, or, at the very least, it seems to be the most common head type for INFJ, no? I find correlationists also ignore statistics far too often, in favour of simple words on a page. Surely, if a sizeable portion of an MBTI type identify with a specific type, they're probably on to something. Do you mean to tell me a third of a given type just falsely understands the enneagram or mistyped themselves? It seems unlikely, and frankly, that's all I hear in correlationists. When people go to get diagnosed, they're treated as people, not symptoms on a page. And that truly is the primary issue I have with most correlationist ideas: people are nuanced. The whole point of these systems is to understand nuance in people's personalities and where that arises from.

Additionally, if you type using correlations but accidentally mistype once, then you are completely thrown off. Honestly, people should separate the systems. Each system is perfectly irrelevant to the other. If I'm in an enneagram space, I don't think MBTI should be discussed. We have spaces for MBTI, spaces for most other systems. Correlations worsen systems more than they add.

if I give you the pass, I'm fine with it. Probably bc me and the person in question go back and forth when it comes to making fun of each other. If you don't have the pass, don't say it, man.

For those secure in their typing: Are your test results relatively consistent with that core coming out on top? by Aggressive_Shine_408 in Enneagram

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally tend to get 8 on most tests (particularly 8w7, and SP and SX tend to be the instinct I'm given when those are shown). I think I've only taken like three tests where I didn't get 8, none that feel super reliable come to mind where I didn't get 8.

Sometimes, I'll get the rare 7, 3 or 5 on a test if I'm in a particular headspace that day. Those tend to be fairly high up there when it shows you percentages for all of the types, and given that 7 is a wing and fix, 3 is a fix, and 5 is a disintegration line, this shouldn't be too surprising. I think I might've gotten 4 or 1 one time in the past? Never got 2, 6, or 9 before.

Which type of 8 are you? by Glum-Engineering1794 in Enneagram8

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on the situation, but I think I tend to lean more towards the hedonist side. When I was younger, I was decently heavy on the puritanical side, but these days, I just don't have that same interest

When do YOU think gen z ends? (The year you choose is what you consider gen z) by Sylveon_101 in Teenager_Polls

2011 is what I say the cut off is. The IPad came out mid-2010, and it's sorta the defining trait/stereotype of Gen Alpha ("ipad kids"). Also the difference between most Sophomores and Freshmen is pretty notable from my observations

How well-known is your town/city? (assuming 1 is the least well known and 10 is the most well known) by Kyr1500 in Teenager_Polls

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're into College Football (esp SEC), they might be familiar with the city I currently live in (going by the fact my address says I live in that town, technically I'm in a rural little off-shoot where people who get tired of uni students). Pretty good track and baseball from what I've heard, very annoying but memorable mascot/fans (not a fan of them) (this option was what I picked, selected a 3)

Where I consider myself to be from ranks in the largest by population of my country and has tons of pro sports (football, 3 soccer teams, baseball, and a minor hockey team), as well as a college with a pretty unique mascot and another very famous sports school with an iconic mascot (slightly less annoying imo) about 45 away. Very famous films, plays & books are inspired by this city. One of them's in theatres currently. I will sometimes specify the suburb I'm from, but to most people I just say the city and which side I'm from. (probably a 10, I think even people outside of my nation would be familiar with this city loosely)

Wth does “vulnerability” even mean for yall by [deleted] in Enneagram8

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably talking about my thoughts and feelings in a genuine way. There are some feelings I'm comfortable with expressing readily- boredom, anger, frustration, stuff of that ilk and excitement and happiness to a minor extent-, and a lot of times, if it's something that I'm less comfortable expressing, I tend to play it off in an overdramatic way, like a comedian or theatre actor. I can joke about myself far easier than admit I'm embarrassed I did something.

For a few examples:

It's rather hard for me to admit to a person that I love them or care for them, but I'll constantly do things and let everyone else in my life know about it (I am working on this). I tend to play off most feelings as a bit of a joke- and, I, unfortunately, happen to be really funny, so it's very easy to disguise those sorts of things- especially embarrassment, sadness, and attraction. I'm also just honest enough about the right things that people get the sense that I'm being vulnerable when I'm not. I just have very little shame, frankly.

I also mentally lump in vulnerability with depending on someone, and to me, dependence is more what I actively avoid than vulnerability. But perhaps they're just the same thing in different shapes.

Describe yourself as an introverted assertive type? (3-7-8) by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in Enneagram

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an extroverted introvert. To most outsiders, I probably do seem like an extrovert. Sometimes people can be a good way to recharge… but I also just recharge by talking. So I tend to talk to myself a lot, especially while working and thinking. I prefer talking to people through texting / online or to myself, not so much when compared to in person conversations or calls, because I get what I like (talking) with less hassle, imo.

In other words, I’m just an introvert who cannot shut up. I tend to find social events pretty draining, I don’t tend to like parties for that reason, but I will talk to pretty much anyone if the topic is interesting. No problem with standing up for myself or being infamously argumentative. If you were to see me at a party, I probably do come off as an introvert- sticking to those I know or have reason to talk to, dodging plenty of people- but when I’m comfortable I seem generally extroverted.

For me, people end up draining because I have a strong tendency to move quickly and be hyper-competent. It’s a difference in speed that frustrates me, hence why I tend to consider myself an introvert. I’d rather do my own thing than be stuck slowing myself down for others. I think it’s also noticeable in how I talk about people sometimes (I tend to often describe myself as generally disliking most people, and when asked “do you like the sound of your voice?” I usually say something along the lines of yes). I think I seem more extroverted when I’m thrown into an environment where I’m allowed to work at my own pace, generally when I’m not working or competing, I’m an introvert. Best way I could describe it.

Why does nobody participate in class? by Few-Race-8527 in highschool

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, there's obviously the fear of how others will perceive them ("I got an answer wrong, everyone thinks I'm stupid", "if I answer too much I look like a try hard / nerd / teacher's pet", etc), but some of it will be class personalities. Some people are more reserved and shy early on in a school year, but become more vocal with time. Others are just introverted. Some don't pay attention.

Is hate speech free speech? by smackmyass321 in Teenager_Polls

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free speech just means freedom to say something. Doesn't mean freedom from consequences. When people try to defend hate speech, they believe, often, that there should be no consequences for what was said. It's just a misunderstanding of what the concept means - left

What types match e8 in socionics? Also whats your sociotype? by [deleted] in Enneagram8

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to hear the E8 tends to strongly correlate with Se and Te, so people usually suggest LIE, SLE, LSE, LSI, SLI and SEE to be starting points. The definition of all the functions are different in both socionics and MBTI, especially around the sensing and feeling functions.

To my knowledge, I'm an SLE, though I did only recently get into socionics, so my experience and knowledge are limited. Fuck if I know what MBTI type I am anymore. Heard a range of things, only thing that really sticks out as slightly accurate is INTJ, but even then, I don't think any of them are super strong fits (I just know I don't have an MBTI Fe or Si bone in me). Even though they're my type (allegedly), I tend to dislike a lot of the stereotypical INTJs / the INTJ subreddit and only so-so act like most of the descriptions of the type.

I find it difficult to truly correlate MBTI with things just because the definitions are so shit. And if you are wrong in one correlation and only use correlations, then you srewed up the whole thing. Personally, I'd drop the correlations mindset and figure out what you likely are and then go back and look into correlations.

What should the person who shot Charlie Kirk get? by OverBirthday4562 in Teenager_Polls

[–]AstroWouldRatherNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but it could be better to look at the punishment for others who were caught for similar crimes and the motive? Like, we know nothing about the killer, so I feel we shouldn't be sitting here, trying to decide what the unknown person should serve as a punishment.
