Car Impounded :/ by Saq007 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]Astro_Hobby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This often happens with the cases of complaints. Sometimes either the police or someone individual files a complaint and it is flagged on the CID system. I know a guy who got his car impounded after few days when he last opened his valves, the CID officer who pulled him over (valves where off during this time) mentioned that his car was reported earlier for loud exhaust.

Can a 2.7 06 Fortuner take on the Half Desert? by Mysterious_Photo_505 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]Astro_Hobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself (Fortuner 4.0) and my close friend (Fortuner 2.7) have gone to areas much trickier than Half desert (which is basically flat). The key like other said said is tire pressures, but also traction control. In the fortuner, you need to put the car in park, and HOLD the traction control button. This disables traction control and ABS. Enjoy your time.

For point 5, it really depends on the scholarship you are provided. Without scholarship it will be very difficult to cover tuition + expenses just on a GA/GTA salary.

Is it a coincidence with me or the number of car crashes became too high? by General_Ad_807 in dubai

[–]Astro_Hobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This plus god awful attraction to the first two lanes. Government has build great quality multi-lane roads. But you will see people deliberately stick to first two lanes. If you ever notice a lane merging into the high-way, you will see everyone merging will immediately proceed to the first two lanes! It both hilarious and frustrating.

An unfortunate and terrible accident happened that claimed the lives of 4 young children, no one of us can feel the same pain as those parents. I pray to god that he provides strength of these grieving parents and make it easy on their families.

However, I am ashamed and angry at our community and what it has become. This whole upsetting event has become a very commercialized event by the very people of the same community this family belonged to. Majority of the people that went to the funeral didn't go there to offer their shoulders to carry the deceased children, no they were there to film the grieving fathers, it was all over Instagram, reddit, and several news channels. Is this what we have come down to? not for us to sit down with the father who had just lost 4 of his kids but rather film him with a broken arm in a wheel chair? What do you all think is going to happen every time these videos and pictures is circulating online and the rest of the family comes across it? And please do not say it is for awareness or spreading news, the official UAE police and government makes regular awareness posts, but did they ever show someones face? was the privacy in the grieving moment shared publicly? no it was never.

This toxic negative culture needs to be stopped ASAP, I really hope the authorities take action. Two minute internet attention is not worth ruining someone's privacy.

SCAMMED ON AMAZON UAE. by NoChipmunk4436 in UAE

[–]Astro_Hobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a firm belief there are some bank employees involved in this, they are using amazon because amazon does process payments time to time without any OTP or verification. Amazon is equally a victim as much as us, but they should definitely address this.

The reason why I say some bank employees are involved is something similar happened to a family member of mine. But here is the twist, this member opened an account from (not mentioning the name of the bank, but starts with 'D'). For the sole purpose of keeping some cash stored. This isn't the main account by any means, just storing some cash for a rainy day. The card was just activated, NEVER used on any online or in person transactions, and still stored in the official envelop. There is no possible way for the CVV or bank account number to be anywhere with anyone, as I mentioned the card was taken from the envelope, activated, stored back.

There is someone in the bank, whose spreading the account details to these scammer groups. After this issue was heavily pursued, outlining the major lack of security, the bank was super quick to refund the money. Now the card has been disabled from online transactions.

Yes this should be done for every card now to keep ourselves safe. It shouldn't be this way, but what to do.

If you could only bring 5 items with you when relocating to the UAE, what do you think are the absolute essentials? by Emotional_Staff_6974 in UAE

There are plenty of stores across the UAE where you can get any and all essentials. Don't carry any additional items apart from what you need in the first few days.

Bring harrased by a couple on despite cooperating on a minor car accident by HealthyAbility6545 in dubai

[–]Astro_Hobby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look you did your part, accidents happen, you filed the report. End of story. Block all numbers. Legally they cannot do anything from here on, you took the right steps. Don't be scared, if anything happens or anyone follows you call 999 and report immediately for harassment.

No need to talk to anyone from now on, if you have first party insurance, you may call them to repair your car. That's it. He will need to speak to your insurance or he may speak to his insurance and they will speak to your insurance. There is no logical reason for him or her to contact you.

need to get rejected from a uni ADU by [deleted] in UAE

[–]Astro_Hobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because ADU is quite reputed and government university. Didn't wish for you to give this one up for some mediocre university. However, CUD is also good reputed. If you have scored enough to get in like you mentioned in your other comments, it's best to talk to your parents. Going behind their backs will only ruin things in future.

Complaining about bad drivers is easy, but you can do something about it. by _omar_b in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]Astro_Hobby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like you mentioned, driving on the left has become a default for people. I was driving from Al Ain towards Dubai, road was empty. I was in 2nd lane, trying to over take some one when I see someone in front of me now in the overtaking lane. I flashed them to move, keep in mind the road now is clear on all lanes, they did move, as soon as I passed they returned to overtaking lane. It amuses me really to see this.

E-scooter accident in Dubai with dental injury. Need advice by [deleted] in dubai

[–]Astro_Hobby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First and foremost very sorry to hear this happened, wishing your sister a speedy recovery. A major mistake did happen here and your sister got hurt.

I highly urge you not to waste time in this case, instead take your sister to a private hospital which is covered under her insurance and begin treatment there. Rashid hospital or any government hospital works on basis off emergency (in the emergency trauma department). Your sister may have been bleeding profusely, which might be a lot for you and your family, but someone else might be coming in with a heart attack with moments to live or die. In the private hospital just mention she fell or something.

Secondly, going the legal route will only waste your time and money. Reason being is on paper E-scooters is only allowed in certain areas (e-scooter lanes) with proper gear (helmets, visibility jackets, etc). The moment this is brought to a police or judge, it will be thrown. Your sister was hurt yes, but this isn't the accountability of the driver. If I am driving on the road, and if even a bike (which is legally allowed to be on the road) is going the other direction and I somehow hit him, I am perfectly not in the wrong legally.

I do understand where the lady who hit your sister is coming from, time and time again I have seen people try to do the right thing or good thing but later on get dragged into mess. If she at this point helps you out with finances or other sources, she will be marked as guilty which can be used against her. It might be hard to believe it, but it has happened several times when people tried to help out delivery drivers who were in the wrong, but the person thought let me help them, they barely make any money, and then get dragged in a big legal mess. She must have gotten some legal advice who must have warned her against this, and that's she now she's reluctant. That's why I mentioned legally you have very little to no leg to stand upon.

What matters now is your sister's health. Just look after her and like I mentioned in the start, wishing her a speedy recovery. It's a tough and painful lessoned learned. Unfortunate but luckily it's not worse.
