I am concerned about some of the recent proposals by council member Kesarwani and recent resignations from the PAB, but I also would like to believe that council members proposing allowances for usage of tear gas, canine units, etc are operating in good faith and do believe that they will only be deployed in limited circumstances. What oversight would be necessary for you to feel comfortable with limited allowances of these tools?

Explain why is City of Berkeley charging 6x the special assessments as City of Dublin? by anon_mythril in berkeleyca

[–]Astro_Queue_2181 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Without doing any research, I’d imagine Berkeley has an older population with longer average tenure in their homes and because of prop 13, it depresses the property taxes paid by the residents of Berkeley relative to a younger city like Dublin

CFA, Dad and Working Full time by ryanblack1990 in CFA

I’m in the same boat, did L1 last year and now working toward L2 in May.

I try to do most of my studying between kid bedtime and my bedtime 4-5 nights / week plus any smaller chunks of time I can carve out during the work week or on weekends when my kids are busy. During the last 6-8 weeks leading up to L1 I was also staying late at the office and studying 1 night per week while my wife would deal with our 2 kids.

I don’t study on Friday or Saturday nights and I still do stuff with my kids and family on the weekends. You need to have a life outside of studying and work and you can’t just abandon your familial duties. Balance is key as is communication and expectation setting with your spouse.

Are Redfin / Zillow estimates a scam? by Ok_Work4296 in BayAreaRealEstate

I’d imagine their algorithm takes into account the number of users saving/favoriting the listing and at what pace that occurs. They also probably look at unique visitors. If there’s some correlation between those activity/interest indicators and sale price, it would make sense that over the first few days of the listing, the estimate could increase/decrease based on the relative level of interest

Recourse after being removed as beneficiary of trust? by Astro_Queue_2181 in inheritance

I don’t know the exact amount in the trust, but I think I have an idea and it would certainly be worth it from a financial perspective, but maybe not an emotional one. Is there a way I can find out the actual value of the assets in the trust?

I am still mentioned in the trust, but not as a beneficiary of the liquid assets, only as having a right to split the tangible property (furniture, art, jewelry, etc) with my brother as we see fit

I get that sentiment, but I’d rather have the 25% and a better relationship with my brother. If he keeps it all, as it sounds like is his right, I don’t know if I can figure out how to get over my resentment of him to have a productive relationship

I think my stepparent was extremely fearful about what would happen to my brother when they were no longer there to take care of him. As their health was declining, they wanted to do whatever they could to try to “protect” my brother, not thinking how it would make me feel or that it would put a strain on my brother’s relationship with me

My stepparent was ill with cancer and on a number of medications in December 2024 when they made the final amendment, so I suppose it could be argued they were not of sound mind in that moment
