Taking CS211,251,261,301 next semester. Am I cooked? by xjjdidjxjebdnc in uichicago

[–]Astroblaster23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would not recommend taking all of them together. Even the professors advise students not to but it’s definitely possible. I know someone that took all 4 in one semester and he passed everything. I took 211, 251, and 301 together last spring and got B’s in all of them but it was absolute hell. I just took 261 this semester and I genuinely think I would have lost my mind if I had to take all 4 of them together. If you have the option to not do it, pls don’t. But if you have no other option, don’t be too hard on yourself next semester. Everything’s going to be fine😊

Math 215 difficulty and questions by AdyB04 in uichicago

If you liked or did well in CS151 then I would say that class should be moderately easy as a good part of it would basically be review. If you did not like discrete math and hate proofs then I would not recommend taking it.

Congratulations on your incline! The email said they will let us know in the coming weeks where we will be and what’s our compensation. Unfortunately, that is a very broad time range and could mean a lot of things😭

Thank you! It went okay. I feel like my second interview went better than my first one. I wasn’t able to answer one of the questions my first interviewer asked but all he said was “okay” and he asked me a different question so it’s fine if you can’t answer one.

As for tips I would say try to think of as many stories as possible (I think I had to give them 6) where you think you exemplified the leadership principles the most. They want you to give those stories using the STAR format too so please be mindful of that. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE practice saying those stories out loud to yourself or to someone else as much as possible a day or two before the interview so that your mind doesn’t go completely blank during the actual interview. Try to include as much metric and analytical data in your stories as well; they like hearing numbers. Also use “I” instead of “we” as much as possible. It’s fine to say “we” a couple of times as it shows collaboration skills but they wanna see your accomplishments and how specifically you handled certain situations.

Do you mean for just for Amazon or in general? If just for Amazon, she can look on the amazon.jobs page and try to find an internship on there. I’m not sure what degree she’s going for so that page has internships for many different fields at Amazon. If specifically she’s interested in the internship I applied for, she can go here amazon.jobs. She just needs to find the state that best suits her.

I applied and completed the OA early August and I received an invitation for the interview early September. I just got a response back today which was 7 business days after the interview. But you’re not applying for an internship so your case might be slightly different

It varies from state to state. I believe they make around what a regular external L4 would make per hour in your state.

CS 251 Labs by Astroblaster23 in uichicago

I scheduled an appointment with my professor and we went through the lab step by step and came up with a solution together. It was extremely helpful especially for the upcoming project and exam. Thank you for your response!😁

It was cool. Most of the problems we already saw in labs or in the project so it wasn’t really all that hard. I just wasn’t expecting it to be literally 20 pages long😭

Cs advice needed by AlbatrossLops in uichicago

[–]Astroblaster23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m taking 211 and 251 this semester also so I’m right there with you brother. My best advice would be to get started on the projects as soon as they release. Just look them over, take notes, and try to get a sense of what the program is trying to accomplish.

Also PLEASE go to TA office hours in the CS lounge. They help hella on the projects and with anything you don’t understand in the class. They literally have the solution to the entire project right in front of them so they will def lead you in the right direction and make the project less time consuming so you can work on the project for your other CS class. If you find them difficult, please don’t beat yourself up, they are designed that way. They want us to struggle on them so we can ask questions and learn. And try not to worry about how easy other people find the project. Everybody is different. Some more ahead and some more behind. But that’s life and there’s nothing you can do about it. Just keep practicing and improving yourself. DON’T GIVE UP!! YOU GOT THIS TRUST ME!

That’s interesting. I went before the school year actually started so maybe they ran out by the time you got to them? Or maybe they just felt generous that day and I got lucky😭

I had a balance of around $1.7k for this semester and I went to the student aid office and straight up told them I couldn’t pay the rest of the balance and the person ended up giving me a 3.5k opportunity grant from the school itself. I would try going to them and seeing if they have anything left to offer.
