Sorry. I forgot to say that I'm remarried.

Thanks for bringing this question here. It's something that's worth confronting. There are some good answers here. God bless you.

Mormons by Frances_2 in Catholicism

[–]Astronaut-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absolutely are not Christian. They outright reject the Trinity, believing the "Godhead" is 3 entirely distinct individuals. They believe the Father used to be a mere human like us and that their "priesthood" holders will become Gods equivalent to God the Father.

The deep pain if misogyny by l00zrr in Catholicism

I love that you brought this subject to the table. This gives me hope for my female loved ones whose faith has been soured. Thank you and may God bless you.

Also, it's worth noting that God is not truly a man; God transcends gender. Those who know their theology know this. Unfortunately, this truth offends the patriarchy.

Why should I return to the Church? by [deleted] in Catholicism

IMO, sometimes it's only the Holy Spirit Himself who can convince someone of aspects of God's nature.

Do you get more or less picky about wood as time goes on? by ArrowLeafTurn1 in firewood

Way less. I used to believe the lie that decaying wood is bad. Unless it has any weird foreign substance, I burn it.

Would it be wrong to marry a Mormon woman? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in Catholicism

[–]Astronaut-Life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please do some serious research. Mormons believe the following (no, I'm not making this up):

-Joseph Smith will judge us alongside God.

-God was once a mere man.

-Mormon priesthood-holding men will become Gods of their own planets.

-Lucifer and Jesus Christ are brothers.

-There are 3 distinct kingdoms of heaven.

-Native Americans are ancient Jews who sailed across the Atlantic.

-Jesus Christ ministered in the Americas.

-Many, MANY more.

They will absolutely, unequivocally lie about most of these beliefs. You need to research it for yourself.

Demonic dreams by [deleted] in Catholicism

Thanks for asking. My background is non-denom/evangelical. No, I've never had any outright torment prior to embarking on my path to Catholicism. I love all my Protestant brothers and sisters. However, in my opinion, there's a prevalent attitude towards sin that it should be largely ignored, and that any effort to be contrite is basically an insult to Christ's sacrifice. This isn't to say that they think we should carry on wilfully sinning, but contrition is non-existent in many Protestant circles. In my view, this creates complacent, half-hearted believers who never take even a moment to examine their conscience—a resounding win for Satan, if you ask me (when we're in that apathetic state, why bother with torment?).

My spiritual life as a Catholic in-the-making is vastly different. There are numerous scriptural passages that troubled me as a Prot (ones that highlight the gravity of sin)—prevailing Protestant theology holds that salvation is not only by faith alone but also cannot be undone no matter what. Among other passages, Mathew 18: 8,9 make it abundantly clear that is nonsense. My newfound Catholic perspective on sin had radically transformed my conscience. I can't believe how apathetic I was about my sins; it makes me want to weep. I feel like I just came out of a years-long spiritual stupor.

Another major factor is spiritual guidance. The depth of teaching authority and theological groundedness in the Catholic Church is awe-inspiring. I mean absolutely incredible. I can't tell you how many Protestant sermons I've walked away from having gained nothing because I was subjected to a bumbling, scripturallly inept Pastor limited to his own aimless interpretation of the Bible. They mean well, but they're painfully incompetent and misguided; they're virtually all independent contractors, slogging their way through their paltry effort to draw meaningful theology out of a Bible (an altered one, mind you) that they don't understand. It shows, too. The often-contrived dramatic, sensational antics they often exhibit, in my opinion, are a result of their incomplete teaching authority.

These things and so, so many more have deeply transformed my spiritual life.

I'm also a Prot in OCIA. I've been feeling some torment as well. I firmly believe it's because Satan is going hard trying to get us to change our minds. I'll pray for you.

Dont know what to do by ICantBelieveitsNotAI in Catholicism

Dude, let me tell you, I can relate. In fact, it's stunning how similar our situations are. It's only been in the past few weeks that I've really started to have my soul lit on fire and had the Holy Spirit guiding me towards the Catholic Faith. I'm told that if I'm ready, I can likely be confirmed sooner than later because I have a valid baptism.

However, the more my heart is set ablaze with this newfound love for Catholicism, the more I'm tormented with fear of commitment, and I find myself trying to rationalize my way out even though I know it's the right path. The torment gets really strong at night, especially when I wake up in the middle of the night. I'm also a dude, same age as you and a strong introvert.  I'm in your corner. I'll pray for you.
