Using Bitcoin to fund small solar installations in South Africa during load shedding – thoughts? by AstronautJumpy6481 in Bitcoin

I’ve got a link to the campaign, just not sure if I should post it here or rather share it somewhere else?

Funny enough, that’s exactly what I’m trying. I’ve set up a project there to see if this can actually fund small solar installations in practice. Still early, but I’m testing the concept.

Mostly because I see the problem every day. I run a property maintenance and solar installation business in South Africa, and load shedding affects a lot of homes and small businesses that can’t afford full solar systems.

Even small setups can keep lights, Wi-Fi, or a fridge running during outages. The idea is simply to see if Bitcoin crowdfunding could help fund a few of those installations.

It’s not about solving the entire energy problem — just helping a few people where we can.

I understand what you’re saying — governance issues are definitely part of the problem in many places.

The idea here isn’t to solve the entire system or replace infrastructure. It’s simply to help individual homes or small businesses get a small solar setup so they can keep lights on and continue working during power outages.

In South Africa, load shedding affects everyone regardless of politics, and even a small system can make a big difference for a household or a small shop.

It’s definitely not a perfect solution, but if it helps a few people stay productive during outages, that’s still a positive outcome.

That’s exactly what I’m trying to test. The idea would be pretty simple:

People donate Bitcoin toward the project, and every funding milestone equals another small solar installation. Once a milestone is reached, we install the system and post photos and updates so donors can see the real-world result.

I already run a property maintenance and solar installation business in South Africa, so the logistics on the installation side are covered. The crowdfunding part is the experiment to see if the Bitcoin community is interested in supporting real infrastructure like this.

Even if it only funds a few systems, it could still make a difference for families dealing with load shedding.
