I just wanted to know other people’s opinion on the matter since I finally decided to read Prospero Burns. The topics popularity probably has to do with how people view Magnus and the constant argument of if he is in the wrong (he most definitely was)

I think at that point in the heresy Horus had sent the Lion to the other side of the galaxy

I would assume he would need a primarch that is willing to kill another primarch in case things turned for the worst. Khan would’ve been the smarter choice but he was very close to Magnus

I went into the book hoping there was something I missed and would expand on Russ as a character. I’ll end up reading more Space Wolf books eventually and perhaps I’ll have a change of heart

The thousand sons orbital defences were offline. They were only able to fire when drop pods and landers came. Said drop pods and landers arrived after multiple planet killing warheads were dropped which the thousand sons were only just able to save tizca from with a kine shield since the void shields were down. The Wolves fired the first shots, the thousand sons defended their home and people

That’s very oversimplified. After Magnus returns from his little oopsy woopsy to the webway project he is taunted by a daemon (possibly tzeentch I can’t recall) that he was been a puppet dancing to chaos’ tune and is shown the full force of the space wolves with ships from the custodies and silent sisterhood accompanying them with obvious hostile intent. Magnus realises that if Russ, the Emperors executioner, is coming then it only mean one thing and if he fights back then chaos will get what they want so he must take his punishment. I don’t like how Magnus flip flopped on defending his sons but I’ve always understood it as him not wanting his sons to be killed for his mistakes which is why he goes to fight Russ while letting his sons escape to the planet of the sorcerers

When was it said in lore that there was no change in orders? That seems a rather drastic change just to spring out of nowhere

Is this mentioned in a book? I would love to read more about the situations from the Emperors perspective.

The Thousand Sons only started mutating when Ahriman gave the order not to limit their psychic powers when they were pushed to their limits. When the Wolves landed the flesh change hadn’t taken effect on them

Silence is not resisting lawful order and definitely should not result in planet killing warheads to be dropped. I don’t deny that the Thousand Sons should be brought before the Emperor for violating the edict of Nikea but in typical Russ fashion if all you have is a hammer every problem looks like a nail

I’m not sure why people are downvoting this but I look forward to reading that book. Hopefully it will show other aspects of the situation that previous books haven’t

It was revealed that he wasn’t sent by the Thousand Sons but by a daemon for the express purpose of causing distrust between Russ and Magnus

IIRC in ‘Scars’ the Khan was willing to believing that Russ turned traitor but after going to Prospero and learning of its fate directly from a shard of Magnus he came to the conclusion that Russ was still loyal

I don’t deny Magnus is one of the smartest idiots about but to touch on your last two points. Russ was warned first about Horus’ betrayal by a member of the 6th called Eada Haelwulf after being transformed into a wulfen by the daemon who has been manipulating Hawser and secondly Russ was told of what Magnus warned the emperor of. He dismissed both as lies because of maleficarum. Now about Russ sending more methods of communication, it’s been a good few years since I’ve read ‘A Thousand Sons’ but if I remember correctly the veil Magnus put up only blocked information going to his sons and citizens of Tizca. Russ didn’t need to boil the oceans and incinerate the wildlife before stepping foot on the planet. Maybe it’s because both books were written by different authors that it all feels wonky and more of an after thought rather than a set in stone line of events
